Obama Administration Deporting Illegals?

This is an interesting and informative article I found on Huffington Post today.  It seems that for all the demonization Republicans heap on Obama for not enforcing the illegal immigration laws, their claim might be up for debate.  According to this article, the Obama Administration has deported more illegals than the Bush Administration did.  One big difference is the percentage of criminal illegals being deported has risen under Obama.    What are your views, thoughts and comments?    Is Obama being a hypocrit or is he simply following our established illegal immigration laws and trying to resolve this issue the correct way?    Indypendent

IMMIGRATION DILEMMA NOT GOING AWAY – by William A. Collins

Immigration  – Makes me yawn; Long as someone, Mows my lawn.

 meat-packing

Illegal immigration, fueled by desperation back home, is common and risky the world over. Senegalese and Nigerians die in open boats heading for the Canary Islands. Haitians do the same en route to Puerto Rico. Mauritanians likewise perish aiming for Italy. And it’s no picnic even when they arrive safely. Abuse and death await Tajiks in Russia, Zimbabweans in South Africa, and Pakistanis in London.

Rewards, however, are alluring. While citizens in receiving countries may respond brutally to foreign competitors angling for their jobs, employers love them. There is nothing like cheap, vulnerable labor to increase profits. Thus, sweatshop and plantation owners everywhere become natural allies of human rights activists in seeking amnesty for the undocumented.

If this sounds to you a lot like the United States, you win. We’re little different from the rest of the world in this age-old dilemma, and in some ways we’re worse. Our own trade policies with Central America foist on those sad lands cheap subsidized American agribusiness corn. This has put their farmers out of business and forced them to sneak up here under cover of darkness. Continue reading

Subprime mortgages & Illegal Immigrants

It was the perfect story:  our country is suffering economically and someone has to be responsible for it.  Oh yeah, our misery is due to the Community Reinvestment Act (of 1977) whereby Dimmocrats tried to help out poor people get loans they couldn’t afford.  [You haven’t heard that one, I am betting…].

The only problem was, that while the above story was good, everyone knows that liberal democrats are bent on bankrupting this great nation, it was not quite perfect.  Conservative talk-radio host, Roger Hedgecock (love that name), helped make the story perfect.  The subprime mortgage mess was due to the fact that 5 million illegal immigrants held bad mortgages in the United States. Hedgecock’s source was none other than the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Of course the only problem with this perfect, well nearly perfect story, is that it is not true.

This story went viral on conservative news outlets and was repeated by Matt Drudge, Michelle Malkin (who termed the problem “the massive illegal alien racket”), and Rush Limbaugh.

This wild assertion does not even pass the “nonsense test”.  In order to get a mortgage loan one has to have 1) a credit history and 2) pay taxes in the U.S. of A. –  things that illegal immigrants don’t usually have or do.
