I am sick of the anti-American rhetoric coming from the mouths of McCain, Graham and the rest of the war-hungry ‘right.’ If there is anything which is weak in a situation like the current one in Ukraine, it is congressional leaders blatant disrespect for our country.

Mixing Politics and Religion

It seems that God has been speaking mostly to Republicans when it comes to the call to serve in public office.  Sharron Angle who hopes to unseat Harry Reid in Nevada joins other Republicans who say God called them to serve.  She says, “I believe that God has been in this from the beginning and because of that, when he has a plan and purpose for your life and you fit into that what he calls you to, he’s always equipped people.”

God, if you believe His messengers, also spoke to Sarah Palin, George Bush and Norm Coleman, calling them to public office.  Why God let Al Franken win Coleman’s seat is another matter.

What other politicians or leaders have you seen claim divine endorsement?  Is God a Republican after all?  In the past when we mixed politics and religion, people got burned at the stake.  Is that where this will lead?

Reconciliation only for GOP

Thanks to the 2006 and 2008 elections, conservatives no longer control the American government. They do, however, continue to essentially control the American media. As a case in point, you’ve probably heard that part of the Obama administration’s plan to pass health reform is to use the budget reconciliation process. The reason you’ve probably heard is that the press has been obsessed with the topic, repeatedly labeling it a “controversial” move that would “ram” legislation via an end-run around the normal legislative process.”

In fact, though most bills do not go through the reconciliation process—typically because their subject matter makes them ineligible—the process has been invoked frequently since 1980. And the reason it’s remained obscure until 2010 is that until the health-care debate, the press never saw fit to go into conniptions over congressional procedure.

Some of the mainstream media coverage of the reconciliation issue has been bad. Some of it, like this excellent NPR story, has been good.

Who paid for this?

If you drive along I-35 in Wyoming, Minnesota, you might see a billboard with a picture of George W. Bush and the words, “Miss Me Yet?”

No one seems to know who paid to put up the billboard, but guesses range from some person or group who isn’t thrilled by President Barack Obama’s performance so far, to it being a more ironic message from those who didn’t think too much of Bush and want to remind voters about him.

Politics Can Do Some Good

I happened to have watched the interview with David Gregory and I hate to admit it, but I  felt kinda sorry for GWB.  He sounded like a man with regrets when asked about Katrina.   But I do have to give Bush credit where it’s due – he did say that working with Bill Clinton was an honor.  He also said something about his mother calls Bill Clinton her 4th son.  Have you ever heard that before?

Bush Biography Paints Unflattering Portrait of POTUS 43

“Why did I sign on to this proposal, if i don’t understand what it does?” George W. Bush is quoted by Matt Latimer in his new tell-all book, Speech-less: Tales of a White House Survivor.  Allegedly, Bush asked this question when it almost dawned on him what the bank bail out proposal was supposed to do.
