  1. Another example of American military dominance is all of the world’s aircraft carriers: The U.S. has 19 aircraft carriers (including 10 massive ones), compared to 12 operated by other countries.

  2. Thunderchild

An excellent point. Particularly relevant since Cheeto visited a fitting out carrier today….
…..the Gerald Ford. I would not want to serve on the Gerald Ford. It will likely bump into things all the time….but digress.
He wants SO much money for an already bloated military. iS he going to be like Reagan and bring back battleships as well? Probably?
In the age of missiles, drones, and cyber war, big expensive weapons are a waste of money. An Aircraft carrier can easily be sunk by weapons available 30 years ago and now common around the world. Much cheaper and easier and quicker to do would be an upgrade in military infrastructure. Do you know that many military systems use dated tech that even includes reel to reel and large floppy disk software? But that is the stuff of intelleigence, and not simple dick waving. (Sorry the language) So instead, we will see SUPER carriers and AWESOME missiles. We may even see a return to the draft which richie rich avoided.

Such valid points, but for the likes of a Trump it does not matter how good the toys are in the toy box. It is that there just is not enough and how can you impress the kid down the street? Particularity if it is already in the box. He want to prove he is a man, that he is to be feared and not just respected but admired. .

LOL I just reread your comment, oddly the comment about bumping into thing did not hit me the first time, the second I chuckled!

There was a time decades ago here in the U.S. when prudent application of economics theory was the practice. One theory was that taxes/taxation should be structured and applied on a basis of “ability-to-pay.” called “progressive taxation.” It worked fabulously. Even Republicans promoted it. Today, the greatest “burden” of taxation is placed upon the least able taxpayers who are the poorer masses. Yes, the wealthy pay more tax amounts because they have the money and means, but it is limited and not based on progressive taxation policy. The most telling examples of today’s taxation are sales taxes, toll taxes, payroll withholding, parking meters/lots, services. properties, etc. I’m interested in how PPP’s posting, today, might look if “progressive economic theory” were applied to defense spending.

It is pretty bad, I seem to get neocons to agree with my points on Facebook. That is disturbing for some reason! Either I am beginning to think like a neocon. Or my points and logic is inescapable, that first one is the most disturbing for me!

  5. Comment on current events from a Canadian. Sometimes we would do well to, at the very least, consider how we appear to our allies right now.
I read somewhere last night that there was no constitutional provision for overturning an election so impeachment and using the order of succession was the only option.

Is there a collective insanity that has overtaken America? Did it come in the box with the complacency and the disinterest? There was no constitution, period, the last time a corrupt and unfair government had to be overthrown.
The brave men and women, some of whom you call your “Founding Fathers”, had to make new rules, set up a new system, establish a new order. Does anyone think that was easy?

When things go outside the lines, you can’t fix them by being determined to use those lines, by refusing to think outside the box.

If this administration gets to hang onto its ill-gotten gain then a precedent has been established and no American election can ever again be considered valid.

If the Russians interfered with the election and the result was the election of candidate Donald Trump and his Republican party, then that candidate AND his party must be removed. To hand the presidency off to the next member of a corrupt administration is ridiculous on its face and beyond the pale of stupidity and well into some other category – which is not a good reflection on the American people or its institutions.

I grow more and more confused and agitated every day. Confused by the lack of widespread, evident, in your face, public outrage as evidenced by protest and peaceful obstruction everywhere, all the time. Agitated because so many people are just waiting, mouths agape in shock, horror, fear and confusion – waiting for an investigation BY the system INTO the system to “fix” the system. You can understand, I am sure, why that makes NO sense.
That said, to the people who are protesting, to the people who are forming groups and planning activities, to the people who are actively resisting: I applaud and honor you. You are the people who embody the famed “American Spirit” and I have tremendous respect for you.

The rest of you are making me feel sort of pissed off.

And this is what Trump chooses to tweet about? TV ratings …again..

I’ve said this before – Trump is not the problem.

The Trump supporters are the real problem. Trump has no power except through his core supporters – which are these White Evangelical Kristians – like Franklin Graham, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell Jr and others.

We all know the facts – Trump only won the Electoral College. He lost the Popular Vote by 2.9 million.

But to his supporters – Trump has a mandate.

A mandate from 24% of the registered voters?

      46% did not vote
4% voted for Stein or Johnson
      That leaves 50%

Hillary got 2.9 million MORE votes than Trump. So that means – at the best – Trump got 24% of all registered voters.

IMHO – winning by just the Electoral College is like having to go into the White House through the back door to grab his coveted prize.

Trump was given kudos for his softer tone and his presidential look at the speech to Joint Congress.

When I heard these pundits say this – I bet my husband as to how many days would it take before Trump does his tweeting and undoes all this good press coverage?

It didn’t take long – did it?

      • BTW – I won the bet with my husband. My husband is much more gracious than I am in giving people a chance.

I give people chances also – but when a snake keeps biting you – do you ever fully trust that snake again?

I think the first order of business is to get Don the Con’s head candled before he really screws things up! Remember, we’ve got Pence in the wings waiting for his turn. That thought is enough to turn even Superman into a bed wetter!

  8. Notice the dates.

  9. Thunderchild

I think it is possible that little hands is being the loud, boorish distraction that comes so naturally for him to distract the country from this overall, truly sinister, far right agenda.

  10. Thunderchild

I don’t know how much of an opportunist Mike Pence is. A pretty big one would be my guess.. But he was never gonna be a legit candidate for national office on his own. He is FAR too extreme. No, it was only little hands who got him this far. Does his gratitude outweigh his ambition? We may find out.
The loony toon in chief now insists President Obama had him wiretapped! He makes this charge with absolutely zero evidence. Nothing inherently illegal about that. But the fact of it is, Obama didn’t even HAVE that authority. What is more, wiretaps are only allowed in cases where criminal activity or espionage is suspected. The idiot is indicting HIMSELF to even suggest that there was cause for such action. Now I know this guy has led a sheltered life that gives him no real grasp on just how the real world works. He’s shown that from the beginning. It goes without question that he has any number of personality and behavioral problems. But it begins to look like he has very little in the way of ANY connection to reality. We are well into territory where his fitness for Office is in question. Even some Repubicans seem to be getting edgy about it. The next election could be very difficult for them if the man they nominated, supported and elected has to be removed as unfit. Nixon was a crook. Little hands may well be a crook and a crackpot as well…

    • But wouldn’t the Patriot Act come into play if the sitting president suspected presidential candidate to be in cahoots with a foreign government to interfere in our elections?

But what is so damn peculiar is that Trump tweets this ridiculous allegation about Obama right after Breitbart News and Mark Levin (a FAr Right Winger) did stories on this same issue.

Bottom line – Trump believes that only Breitbart News and Mark Levin are factual news journalists?

If this is true – then the war is over. The last person to leave America needs to turn off the lights.

      • I just read on a national blog from some Trump Chump that he knew Obama requested a FISA to wiretap Trump Tower and was turned down.

Then Obama went back with a narrower FISA request to wiretap Trump Tower and he was given that one.

If this is true – then wouldn’t there be a FISA judge who looked at this request and judged it to be constitutional – which is why they gave the approval to wire tap?

I’m not well versed in how wire taps are obtained – so I am asking a serious question.

        6176 – where are you??

  11. Thunderchild

You know it’s bad when they have to go looking for what they can only guess set the guy off.
Levin did not mention wiretaps as far as I know. He has been suggesting that Obama stacked the deck against little hands on his way out and calling on Congress to look into that. Though I dont know what there could be to look INTO. There is nothing criminal in efforts to protect your legacy/ thwart as much as possible a new administration through legal means. I hope Obama did do that and I would be furious if he did not. Levin is calling that a coup. But entrenching the bureaucracy to protect your ideals is something EVERY administration does.
Prediction: If little hands just handed us the big nothing burger I think he did and any of the wiretapping talk attaches itself to Levin, Levin is gonna scream like a stuck pig and run away from it as fast as he can.

    • But if Trump is as smart and brilliant genius as he has claimed many, many times – then why would a stacked deck be any problem to him?

Trump has a very thin skin – and the petty issues like his crowd size and his t.v. ratings seem to be what sends Trump 0-to-60 in two seconds.

This is what is dangerous – IMHO

If you close your eyes and just listen to Trump talking – you would swear it is some middle school drama queen spewing all their sh_t because they are not the most popular, or their boyfriend talked to another girl.

      Oh Boo Hoo….Boo Hoo..

  12. Thunderchild

Yeah Levin’s website is already trying to put distance between him and this allegation.

  13. Thunderchild

Ok yeah, Levin is definitely the source of this. He has fronted that “surveillance” was conducted against Trump operatives. But we already knew this. A FISA judge had to sign off on it and that means there was cause for concern. But Levin is a lawyer and knows how to say things without saying them. Littlehands took his lawyer ball and ran with it.
And all day comes news that his twitter rant preceded an in person rant against his staff….

    • I suspect man-child Trump is just throwing a big hissy fit because Sessions recused himself from any investigation.

And yet there are Trump supporters who truly believe every word that comes out of Trump’s mouth – as supplied by Breitbart and/or Levin
