In my opinion, Jimmy Carter was a great President of the United States. He was first and foremost, humble. He was very intelligent. And while I too, am a Christian and disagreed with some of his conclusions about our faith, his Christian Faith became a fundamental guide in his governing decision-making which was to his great credit.
Unfortunately, today, those in politics who talk about their Christian faith tend to guide their governing and decision-making in a very non-congruent direction with the basis of early Christianity as emerged from the original “The Way” as taught by Jesus. Once the Church was established and commenced to control that church as “Christian,” orthodoxy replaced the fundamental message of Jesus.
IMHO – Jimmy Carter was too honest of a person to know how to be the political animal it takes to be the President. Let’s not forget – this was back in the late 1970’s – and things have gotten so much worse nowadays.
When talking politics with my son and his wife yesterday, my son said that he thinks that it does not matter who is president – these Corporations and other special interest lobbyists have our government all on their own puppet strings.
My DIL was a bit more hopeful that the majority of working people will eventually rise up and then things will change.
To tell you the truth – when I am out and about doing errands with my grandkids – I have seen such a downward spiral in the average person. So many are just plain rude, crude and they have no class.
And there is no certain demographic that fits this profile – old people running down my little kids to get to the pharmacy counter is my biggest pet peeve.
But I have noticed something interesting – a lot of times the people that are the nicest have the appearance of being the outcasts – they have tattoos, goatee beards and they wear the grunge look (old jeans, leather coat, etc.)
These folks would be the first ones these Kristians would look down on – but I’ve seen some of these people with the most tattoos go out of their way to be nice and respectful.
That old saying – don’t judge a book by it’s cover – is very true.
BTW – when I read my Bible, Jesus was helping t those outcasts of society – wasn’t he?
When I drive East from Wichita on N. 21st toward Andover – there are several huge Mega Churches. I also wonder – how much money does it take to simply keep those buildings running – doesn’t leave much money to do what Jesus did – to help anyone.
And to think – one of these churches has a big sign proudly stating they are expanding.
Expanding to do what – put in your own indoor swimming pool, your own restaurant or just another huge ugly-ass building?
I do think Jimmy Carter lives a Christian life that is modeled after what Jesus actually did – taking care of fellow human beings.
When I hear it doesn’t make much difference who is president I always think of SCOTUS. Those court appointees CAN / DO MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE and these are the facts for the next POTUS —

Those are the ages that Supreme Court Justices Stephen Breyer, Antonin Scalia, Anthony Kennedy and Ruth Bader Ginsberg will be when the next president is sworn in, respectively. The next president we elect (assuming he or she serves two terms) could very well be the individual who selects four Supreme Court Justices.
That is something that is never mentioned – or even talked about.
I suspect if the Republicans were to talk about the prospect that their guy would get to appoint a potential 4 justices – that is when these Kristians will come out of the woodwork and do their whooping and hollering.
With all the craziness of these Kristians they already displayed, the thought of more of these Kristians on the SCOTUS should scare the bejeezus out of the Democrats and Independents.
Most Independents that I know do believe our country should be run by these Kristians – and making laws according to their version of the Bible.

fnord – You bring up an excellent point.
