  1. But…but…Conservatives have Jesus on their side – so that trumps any positives that those evil Liberals have accomplished.

    You betcha Wink-wink

  2. Asher Bob White

Can conservatives identify anything? Even one thing? Does “war” count?

    • It seems these current day conservatives can only identify how to manipulate the system so they can make as much money as possible – preferable leeching off the taxpayer-provided government trough.

But these same CONS also know how to manipulate and get all the tax-free money from their minions – simply open up a mega church.

BINGO – PRESTO – all the tax-free millions you can imagine will start flowing your way – as long as you remember to pat these CONS on their pointy little heads and tell them they are indeed better than that guy ‘over there’.

And this is something I’ve seen happening more and more on the CONS side of the world – the mis-use of Christianity as some litmus test for only those who truly deserve the finest things in life.

  3. Let’s take a moment to pause and remember what Memorial Day is really about.

It’s about the 116,000 Americans killed in WWI.
The 405,000 Americans killed in WWII.
The 36,000 Americans killed in the Korean War.
The 58,000 Americans killed in the Vietnam War.
The 2,200 Americans killed in the Afghanistan War.
The 4,500 Americans killed in the Iraq war.
And all the Americans killed in other wars.

    Thank you for your service.
    Thank you for your sacrifice.
And thank you for being willing to die for your country.

None of these made the decisions to go to those wars, they gave over and above.

    • Thanks for posting this fnord.

I fear too many Americans don’t even know what Memorial Day is truly about. Too many folks think it is only the day that kicks off the summer vacation.

Or it is another sale day at their favorite retail store.

I suspect the reason so many Americans don’t really know is because we have made wars such a ‘normal’ thing and it is something we only see on our television sets.

The Vietnam War was the first war that was put into our faces on the television sets – remember?

I remember the big debate over George W. Bush’s decision to not allow media coverage of the caskets of our dead soldiers arriving home form Iraq and Afghanistan. And GWB also did not want any media to keep the running count of how many soldiers died that day.

Why do we hide the ugly truth of these wars? George W. Bush said it was because he didn’t want to cause the families grief. WTF…..their loved one is dead – how much more grief can there possibly be?

The most important lesson we can learn from our fallen soldiers we remember on Memorial Day is to learn the lessons from each war.

And in learning the lessons – we bring honor to our soldiers that gave the ultimate price for their country – We the People owe them so much more than just a holiday sale at some retail store or to be known as the reason for some BBQ in the backyard to kick off the summer.

This issue hits home to me because I lost loved ones in the Vietnam War. We need to learn the lessons from these wars before it’s too damn late..

But I fear we still have folks who believe if they wear clothes that resemble the American Flag, wear a flag pin or dress up like George Washington at some damn Tea Party – this is what makes them a patriotic American.

NOT in my book. Not when those same folks are constantly banging the war drums to put our soldiers into their much-desired Holy War.

I’ll get off my soapbox now.

Yes, thanks. I choose to believe that you left out “shopping” on purpose.

  4. Your legislators are hearing from ALEC. Are they hearing from you?

And just to keep you updated on ALEC, last week, on Wednesday, May 20th, every legislator was greeted with this letter on their desk. It states, in part,

“Kansas lawmakers should be applauded during the 2012 tax reform for taking major steps to reform the state’s tax structure and make Kansas more competitive. We believe your Kansas tax reform measures are some of the boldest tax reforms across the states during the past decade. As a state on the forefront of pro-growth tax reform, and with the rest of the nation watching, we hope Kansas will not backtrack on its momentous achievements.”

Meanwhile, here in the land of reality, the legislature is struggling to meet it’s budget obligations with an approximately 400 million dollar budget hole. The letter goes on to suggest that, “as budget realities need to be addressed, the spending side of the fiscal coin is a good place to start.”

  5. “The Arizona woman who ran over her husband in her SUV because he had failed to vote in the 2012 election and she was distraught over Mitt Romney’s loss has been sentenced to 3 ½ years in prison. While it would be easy to blame this white-on-white crime on white culture or the lack of white role models, the truth can be found in the fact that the couple have gotten divorced, which shows that the real fault lies with gay marriage.” ~ Paul Waldman

    • The same happened to nursing homes from the time St. Ronald Reagan was in office and the mental hospitals were emptied out.

That is when the corporations started buying up these nursing homes and Medicare paid (and continues) the highest dollars for the sickest patients.

So, where is the incentive to get these people back to good health? There is no incentive – and that’s the rub.

The other problem with corporatized nursing homes is this – all the money is usually funneled to the corporate heads and then doled back to the nursing home to be used to pay operational costs – after the Corporate fat cats take the lion’s share of the money.

Problem with that is – too many times there is not enough money coming back to the local nursing home to pay all its bills – so they take short cuts.

Then we come to the fact that our modern medical technology is keeping people alive longer and these are the same patients who are on Medicare and in nursing homes.

So – it is a game of admitting the sickest for the most money and then going through this cycle returns to the hospital for a short visit (hospital takes it’s part of the pie (usually a corporate hospital) and then patient returns to the nursing home just to be returned back to the hospital and the cycle repeats itself.

The new Medicare rules has tried to cut down on the repeat admissions to hospitals and nursing homes – but the lobbyists for these nursing homes do tend to carry a big stick…

Hmmm…lobbyists for corporate nursing home and lobbyists for corporate prisons……sound familiar?

  6. We drove to Watonga, Oklahoma for a funeral yesterday. We stopped in Enid to pick up my Aunt and Uncle — sure glad we did because there is so much flooding. We wouldn’t have known all the ways you could get from Enid to Watonga and the way we would have gone would have left us stranded in flood waters.

Oh, btw, you can still tell when you leave Kansas because the roads are worse in Oklahoma. Wonder how long it will take to get where Oklahoma is since Brownback stole from road funds to patch his stupid ‘shortfall’ that he created?

    • Bite your tongue you Liberal – Brownback is doing a great job….

Did I pass the litmus test to get a cushy job with Brownie?

all of the above is pure sarcasm…

      • fnord – I believe I have come up with a product that shows exactly what the New Improved Republican Party is all about:

        A welcome packet including:

        1) Ronald Reagan rose-colored glasses – so as to not see the facts.

        2) Set of ear plugs – so as to not hear the facts.

        3) Eye blinders – so as to not see the facts.

        4) Duct tape to go over the mouth – so as to never ask questions.

        5) The newt GOP Bible that teaches how the wealthiest is entitled to rule the country because all others are deemed unworthy.

        6) T.V. Remote control that only has one button to the one channel – Foxxies Hen House Cluck Fest

        7) An American Flag t-shirt that is guaranteed to fit around any beer gut.

        8) A discount coupon to buy any assault weapon of your choosing to strap around that beer gut while parading through the local Walmart or Target to show how ‘macho’ and ‘patriotic’ you are.

        9) Last but not least – a box of tea bags to prove how much you hate the federal government.

        Did I leave anything out?

      • Perfect! That #4 will not only ensure they stay uninformed by not asking questions but also make the world a much better place by keeping them quiet. Can we add something to keep them from typing their stupidity on blogs and such?

      • fnord – maybe we can use the duct tape to tape their hands together?

This way, they could always drink and feed themselves – I don’t want to kill these poor folks. Some of them are just too stupid to know they are stupid.

      • After thinking for awhile about my last comment, I don’t mean to imply that Republicans are stupid people.

They just seem to have more than their share of people who are willing to be Proud to be Stupid.

  7. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/paper-sorry-for-letter-suggesting-obama-should-be-executed/ar-BBklYyE?ocid=DELLDHP

Might I suggest this be Exhibit A as to the stupidity of some of those folks on the Far Right of our political spectrum in the USA?

This reminds me of the Pro Life supporters who sit back, encourage and applaud when one of their own vandalizes an abortion clinic or even kills/wounds the doctor and/or staff.

But then when the accountability chips start to fall – all these Pro Lifers will scatter like cockroaches when the bright light is turned on them…

Just a bunch of cowards disguised as bullies.

    • BTW – what part of using this logic of advocating for executing President Obama do these Far Right Kraziies just not get?

Do these folks truly believe they are changing anyone’s mind about Obama?

These folks are using terrorist threats against an elected president – not once but twice.

Who the hell would even vote for these Far Right Krazies when they have shown us time and time again – they are just downright K-R-A-Z-Y….

      • I’ve said this before – I truly believe we are living in a country filled with a bunch of teenage Mean Girls Club members or a bunch of middle school boys in the locker room all trying to out-piss one another…

Geez……just GROW up already. I am so Sick and Tired of these nonsense people filled with hate simply because they are SORE LOSERS.

    • It’s hard to understand how editors of a paper could say they check letters for personal attacks and yet the letter about Obama didn’t ring any bells?? For gawds sake — add the editors to those proud to be stupid!

      • I know what you mean…. this letter writer advocated for a Regime change and then went on to say execution ….

What part of this entire statement did not ring one damn bell???

  8. Apparently, former Republican Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert, has been even busier (and more generous) than the Duggars in covering up child molestation. I do hope that Mike Huckabee doesn’t trip over a microphone wire in his rush to remind us that Jesus is so beyond bored with kiddie-diddling if you’re a Republican and say the magic incantation, “Oops! Sorry, Jesus!” — Mrs. Betty Bowers, America’s Best Christian

    • I actually just saw a national blog where some Republican was trying to defend Hastert as being this poor persecuted person just because he is a Republican.

But then this guy added something about how evil Liberals will still defend Bill Clinton…

Whoa….wait a minute……Bill Clinton was with grown adults – not saying that it was the moral thing to do – but at least Bill was not doing it to kids.

  9. http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/05/31/us-usa-biden-son-idUSKBN0OG01120150531?feedType=RSS&feedName=topNews&utm_source=twitter

What sad news. I always liked Joe Biden and his son seemed like a very nice man.

    Cancer – I hate that word…

    • You should see some of the comments on a national blog I just looked through.

When Republicans – especially those who profess to be such morally superior Christians – say the hate-filled things they same when a Democrat dies from brain cancer – it just makes me sick.

How can people be so cruel???

      • I’m sympathetic to almost anything that doesn’t involve mean-spirited-ness. When someone has died to say anything less than some kindness for the loss is beyond understanding and I just can’t handle it. I don’t understand that ugly behavior and I really hope I never do.

  10. “Michelle and I are grieving tonight. Beau Biden was a friend of ours. His beloved family – Hallie, Natalie, and Hunter – are friends of ours. And Joe and Jill Biden are as good as friends get.
Beau took after Joe. He studied the law, like his dad, even choosing the same law school. He chased a life of public service, like his dad, serving in Iraq and as Delaware’s Attorney General. Like his dad, Beau was a good, big-hearted, devoutly Catholic and deeply faithful man, who made a difference in the lives of all he touched – and he lives on in their hearts.
But for all that Beau Biden achieved in his life, nothing made him prouder; nothing made him happier; nothing claimed a fuller focus of his love and devotion than his family.
    Just like his dad.
Joe is one of the strongest men we’ve ever known. He’s as strong as they come, and nothing matters to him more than family. It’s one of the things we love about him. And it is a testament to Joe and Jill – to who they are – that Beau lived a life that was full; a life that mattered; a life that reflected their reverence for family.
The Bidens have more family than they know. In the Delaware they love. In the Senate Joe reveres. Across this country that he has served for more than forty years. And they have a family right here in the White House, where hundreds of hearts ache tonight – for Hallie, Natalie, and Hunter; for Joe and for Jill; for Beau’s brother, Hunter; his sister, Ashley, and for the entire Biden clan.
“I have believed the best of every man,” wrote the poet William Butler Yeats, “And find that to believe it is enough to make a bad man show him at his best or even a good man swing his lantern higher.”
Beau Biden believed the best of us all. For him, and for his family, we swing our lanterns higher.
Michelle and I humbly pray for the good Lord to watch over Beau Biden, and to protect and comfort his family here on Earth.” —President Obama on the passing of Beau Biden
