When I was in elementary school and we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by wearing green and being pinched if you did not wear green – I remember my grandfather (my father’s dad) pulling me aside and whispering that – we were a special family because on one certain day of the year – we were Irish. Then he just winked and gave me the sweetest smile.
And that day just happened to be March 17th!!
My father’s dad was not a warm and affectionate person – so to know that he took the time out to make his small granddaughter feel better – is one of the best memories.
I just read this could result in up to 300,000 more voters. I don’t have a link, I don’t have anything except somebody said this. It is unreliable and just a rumor.
BUT! If it turns out to be only a tiny bit true — Oregon is a v e r y blue state. I like this even more than I did before! 🙂
Today House Republicans unveiled their budget. It (1) decimates programs for the poor (huge cuts in Medicaid, food stamps, and Pell grants for college students from poor families); (2) cuts federal aid to education; (3) turns Medicare into a voucher system (that doesn’t keep up with expected increases in healthcare costs); (4) repeals Obamacare (which is now providing health insurance to 16.4 million people who otherwise wouldn’t have it); (5) boosts military spending by nearly $40 billion next year (through an off-budget war funding account); (6) increases military spending in subsequent years while further cutting domestic discretionary spending; and (7) doesn’t raise a dime of taxes on the wealthy and doesn’t close any tax loopholes used by the rich.
Budget plans don’t have the force of law but they set goals and reveal priorities – and now that Republicans run both houses of Congress those goals are doubly important. As revealed in this budget, Republicans aim to reward the rich, expand the military, harm the middle class, and screw the poor. Nothing new, only slightly more extreme and brazen.
Some of you still cling to the belief there’s no essential difference between Republicans and Democrats.

Automatic voter registration through the Drivers License Dept.
What do you think?
Absolutely fabulous! Encouraging people to vote — what a concept! A lady governor. We need more women!

Well, you’re wrong.
