  1. I would like to expand on Sen. Sanders’ thoughts –

No American should have to live in poverty

  2. “He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; ” — The US Constitution Article 2 Section 3

Happy SOTU Day everyone! Let Freedom ring.

    • This is the republican plan to win over Spanish-speaking voters. Try to keep a straight face, this isn’t the most stupid thing they’ve ever done but it’s one more for the list.

(from the link): Each year, the opposition party taps a member to deliver a response to the president’s State of the Union address. For Tuesday night’s speech—President Barack Obama’s sixth—Republicans have awarded this duty to Iowa freshman Sen. Joni Ernst, who rose to prominence last spring when she released a campaign ad about castrating a pig.

The GOP has also announced it will be offering a Spanish-language rebuttal, which will be delivered tonight by freshman Florida Rep. Carlos Curbelo, a young conservative from a diverse Miami congressional district. But there’s a wrinkle. According to a press release from the House Republicans, Curbelo will not be sharing his own thoughts and words with the public. Instead, he will only be reading a Spanish translation of Ernst’s speech.

Curbelo’s office confirmed that he will not be delivering his own remarks.

By the way, Ernst has endorsed English as a national language and once sued Iowa’s secretary of state for offering voting forms in languages other than English. Her office did not respond to requests for comment.

Curbelo has broken with his own party on immigration to support a path to citizenship for undocumented residents. Ernst has repeatedly expressed opposition to “amnesty.”

  3. Obama is all that’s standing in the way of these bills becoming law.
Here’s hoping his veto pen has a lot of ink in it.

  4. I’ve been thinking about my comment above about No American should live in poverty.

The fact remains – America is one of the wealthiest countries in the world and yet we have way too many Americans homeless, hungry Americans who are living in poverty or about to tumble down into poverty if they miss one paycheck or a health care disaster happens.

And what gets me the most angry is when I hear these Conservative Christian Republicans bragging that it is their group that gives more money to charities and that Democrats/Liberals are evil heathens.

I guess I will never understand how some of these Conservative Christians truly believe that their donations to their favorite mega church is going to charity?

Excuse me – but those mega churches need a lot of cash flow to keep those huge complexes running – especially those with the indoor swimming pool, fitness center and restaurants.

But, then again, I’m sure there is a small percentage earmarked for ‘missions’ that is given to those White Christians who feel they have the right to go into a foreign country and try to convert everyone to their version of Christianity.

I am thinking of the recent few Christians who were captured in North Korea – and our government had to get their release – at taxpayers expense.

I fail to see how this is helping anyone in America to get out of poverty – or to even get a job to feed their family – or to have a warm and safe home to live in.

Call me cynical (Hell, I call myself that) – but I will NEVER understand the thinking that goes into believing any of these mega churches are nothing more than the money vendors that Jesus ran out of the Temple.

As I recall – that was the only time Jesus ever showed his temper. Did you notice that Jesus never lost his temper with the prostitute he saved from stoning – or the thief that was crucified on the cross next to Jesus’s cross?

That is a lesson that has been conveniently forgotten – or maybe these mega church preachers and televangelists have managed to hoodwink a bunch of people?

  5. President Obama gave a strong, unifying, inspirational SOTU speech. He has good ideas and due to the success of his first six years the state of the union is much stronger.

  6. This line was one of my personal favorites —
