  1. I had never listened to Lesley Gore’s 1964 song “You Don’t Own Me” and thought of the power of women just saying that phrase together: “YOU. DON’T. OWN. ME.” Not to our special someones … but to our government. Until now! Dayum! Gauntlet thrown!

The ladies behind this magical mash-up of celebrity lady faces did. They were like, “This song is about dating, but also — it’s about rights!” (And therefore, it’s about VOTING.)

Women constitute more than half of the population. In 2008, 60% of voters were women. It is estimated that 10 million more women than men will vote in this election. Despite this, women make up only 16% of Congress. Women earn only 70 cents to each dollar men make. Women of color and undocumented women make less than white citizens.

  2. Interesting!

The Pew Research Center published a fascinating new report on political polarization and the media Tuesday morning. The report contains this chart, based on survey data of people who say they’ve read, watched, or listened to different media outlets. It shows how consistently liberal or conservative the average audience member of 32 different media outlets is:

The link has much more information, and several more charts.
