Getting money out of politics is going to happen right after these same politicians vote for budget cut to their own paychecks, taxpayer-provided health insurance and those golden parachute pension plans.
I am of the opinion that the attempts at greater democratization of the Republic (see 17th Amendment) has helped lead to the proliferation of money in politics. Looking at things from afar, the need to run Senate campaigns to “get the vote of the people” created the need to raise money to fund them, which opens the door to lobbyists representing the interests of big donors, . . . and the beat goes on.
