Democracy is a form of government in which all citizens take part. It is government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Socialism is where we all put our resources together and work for the common good of us all and not just for our own benefit. In this sense, we are sharing the wealth within society.

Democratic Socialism consists of a democratic form of government with a mix of socialism and capitalism.  To a Democratic Socialist, sharing the wealth means pooling tax money together to design social programs that benefit ALL citizens of that country, city, state, etc. The fire and police departments are both excellent examples of Democratic Socialism in America.  Rather than leaving each individual responsible for protecting their own home from fire, everyone pools their money together, through taxes, to maintain a fire and police department. It’s operated under a non-profit status, and yes, your tax dollars pay for putting out other people’s fires.

Next time you hear republicans use the word “socialism” and “spreading the wealth” in the same breath, understand that this is a serious misconception, or maybe just another republican fear tactic. Democratic Socialism does NOT mean taking from the rich and giving to the poor.  It works to benefit everyone so the rich can no longer take advantage of the poor and middle class.

  1. Republicans in the U.S. House have decided to make all of us pay a pretty high price for their inability to be more than the majority in only one half of one third of government. They didn’t win! They lost seats in both chambers of Congress and they lost the presidency. They’ll just stamp their feet hard enough none of us can ignore their tantrum. They want what they want and to hell with what was done constitutionally. Meantime their hissy fit causes all kinds of pain and trouble but Obamacare continues.

The ones who say they’re representing the people who elected them seem to have lost track of a very important fact. When the votes were all added up there weren’t enough for them to be the majority. They lost.

  2. Have you ever noticed that when Republicans spew their talking point of taking from the rich to give to the poor……they NEVER say taking from the taxpayers to give to the RICH???

Let’s face it – corporate welfare socialism is alive and well – and growing. As evidenced by the House Republicans voting to INCREASE those farm subsidies while taking $40 billion away from food stamps.

  3. Melissa Harris-Perry has a good show today……it is all about the ACA.

Obama and his team has not done a very good job about educating the public about the benefits of the ACA.

While MHP and her panel was talking……I suddenly had a thought.

Many of these Tea-Pot-Publicans profess to be such damn find Christians and they want the Ten Commandments posted everywhere.

One of those commandments is about not bearing false witness (telling a lie).

These folks have been telling outright lies about the ACA – haven’t they?

So…….does this mean these fine morally superior Christians are breaking their own commandment?

Ah…..not to worry…..many of these folks are Puritans – which means…..Rules are for the ‘other guy’ and not them…..

    • One man on the panel stated it quite simple….

If Republicans thought the ACA was going to fall on it’s own…..they would just let it happen.

So, just by the fact these Tea-Pot-Publicans are in such a feverish pitch of spasms and nonstop talking spews……that indicates these people are afraid health care reform is going to be successful.

      And they cannot stand that…….

    • Here’s a really good read about those lies.

(from the link): So, what accounts for the current, last-ditch, fumbling-fuming on the part of the G.O.P. to stop Obamacare, going so far as to threaten a shutdown of the government in an effort to overturn the clear voice of the American people that was expressed in the last election? It’s hard to say. But I think I have an answer:

The lies are about to be exposed. And the Republicans are terrified of what the country will think when the veil of mendacity is torn away.

Are Republicans So Frantic to Stop Obamacare Because They Fear It Will Work?

  4. 1,000 days since the GOP took control of the House after campaigning that jobs would be priority #1. Still no jobs bill.

    • Hell – they also promised to repeal and replace Obamacare.

      where was the replace part?

I am willing to listen to their proposal – if they ever really had one.

I don’t believe one word any Republican spews from their mouth at the moment.

They have allowed their leaders to act like bullies and to do nothing but this damn cock-strutting and I am TIRED of all this nonsense.

Did you hear that the new House bill now includes a clause about birth control?

What is it with these damn white GOP dudes and birth control???

These men (I use the term loosely) just don’t get it……they have pissed off women numerous times…..and yet continue to do their cock-strutting..

Time to take those cocks to the back of the barnyard and ring their necks.

      • Yes, I saw the latest attack on women. Like you, I don’t trust them and I don’t believe them. Republicans don’t seem to have any idea how to do much more than alienate voters of all stripes, women and minorities in particular.

      • wicked

There were two replacements offered by the Republicans. Neither made it to a vote. Why? They sucked.

I saw that last night, Indy. Un-effing-believable.

        The Conscience Clause

The so-called “conscience clause” would allow employers and insurers to opt out of preventative care for women which they find objectionable on moral or religious grounds. That prominently includes birth control, which most insurers are required to provide for free under current Obamacare rules.

fnord, I’d be afraid to see any jobs bill from the Rs. For the past 30+ years, the Republicans have not supported the people. In fact, that could be stretched back another 20 years to just after Eisenhower.

  5. Let’s not forget – these same Republicans that are willing to destroy our economy rather than to give Americans the access to health care insurance are also those who sat and applauded while their boy GWB used taxpayer money to give FREE healthcare to Iraqi people.

    WHY do Republicans hate Americans?

For a little over 30 minutes last night, I watched and listened (and ranted and raved) to the debate on the floor of the House regarding the vote for a shutdown. I listened to both sides, and let me tell you, if I’d watched much more, my TV would be on the floor, shattered. I’m grateful to SNL for interrupting my impending meltdown over the shutdown.

    Really, Republicans? Really?!?!

All the Rs could say was that the people demanded that Obamacare be defunded. That was their basis for every minute they spoke. The Ds introduced Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia, who spelled out what a shutdown would mean to various parts of the government. You can see that same list on CNN’s website.

For those who say that this won’t affect the average person, I cry foul.

What I noticed was that the counter points made by the Democrats contained 99% more facts than the Rs rhetoric and rants. It was clear they had the citizens in mind. All the garbage thrown out by the Rs began to smell, and it will reek as it sits in the light of day. The Ds offered, more than once, to reach across the aisle and talk, but of course have been and will continue to be refused.

    “My way or the highway!”
“I’ve got mine, who cares if you have yours!”

Go ahead, Republicans. Shut it down. Hurt the people you say you “represent”.

    • Sure “the people” want Obamacare defunded. Uh huh. That must explain that election in 2012 when the Republican Party lost the presidency, two Senate seats and eight House seats. You remember that election, don’t you? It was the one when the republicans promised to defund Obamacare if they were elected in majorities. It was the election when Mitt Romney promised if he was elected he would overturn Obamacare by Executive Order his first day in office. Then they lost.

      • wicked

Yeah, “the people.” Their corporate masters.

Does this include insurance companies? I don’t trust insurance companies, so either they are playing a game on the side of the Rs, or they’ve come to realize they’ll make money off of the ACA. I’m sure they’re all happy not that the single payer idea quickly vanished. Or so they think.

    A must read!

Clinton says Obama needs to call the GOP’s ‘bluff’

“He could stop it, but the price of – the current price of stopping it is higher than the price of letting the Republicans do it and taking their medicine,” he said in an interview that aired Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.”

Clinton went on to say that House Republicans, having realized they have little chance of pushing through legislative items their party wants, have dug in and scrapped any plans of negotiating. “Give us what we want or we’re going to shut the government down,” Clinton said, describing how he sees the GOP strategy.

“I think under those circumstances, the president has to take the position he’s taken,” he continued. “Which is ‘You – not me – you voted to spend this money.’ … You can’t negotiate over that. And I think he’s right not to.”

  8. wicked

How much has it cost the taxpayers each time the Republican House has tried to dump the ACA? Why don’t their constituents see the writing on the wall? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ And now it will cost even more. WE fund the government, including the ridiculous waste of Republican B.S. bills. WE pay THEM to do this? Over and over and over again? 43 times, including this latest waste of time?

I have a morbid habit of reading comments to posts on FB and articles online. Habit? More like an addiction. A time-wasting addiction. Am I going to have to do what I did about watching TV? Pretty much quit watching/reading? But if I do that, might I become one of the (many) uninformed?

  9. This is another good read! Don’t have to look far as it seems everyone, including republicans capable of thinking, have this situation figured out.

(from the link): Speaking with reporters, Coburn said, “The only time you shut down the government is when you shut it down and refuse to open it until you accomplish what you want. But we’ll fold like hotcakes. You do not take a hostage you are not going to for sure shoot. And we will not for sure shoot this hostage.”

First of all, he basically admits that the GOP is trying to cowardly take Obamacare (and as a result, our nation) hostage. As I said last week, we’ve watched the Republican party transform from an actual political party to nothing more than domestic terrorists.

Secondly, he’s absolutely right. It’s something I’ve said countless times over the last few weeks. Unless Republicans are willing to go 3+ years without our government being funded (the time Obama has left in office) or even a full year (next year’s elections), then this whole spectacle is just that—a spectacle.

  10. It’s a little over a minute and a half of a great dream! Bob Schieffer travels with the Ghost of Congress Future to a time when lawmakers in Washington stick around and work.

Dreaming of a bright future for Congress

  11. I’ve said this before…..just imagine a rooster head on each of these Republicans who are currently doing their cock-strutting.

It’s all for the Tea-Pot-Publicans and to see which Tea Party Darling will get that much desired and coveted GOP 2016 nomination.

Sit back and take a deep breath…..

we have a major political party who is fighting over Americans having the right to buy health insurance?

Is that really what this country is about?

No wonder the rest of the world points at us and just laughs…

    • If the GOP wants any chance to survive the Tea-Pot-Publicans…..they need to DITCH Reagan follow Eisenhower.

Ronnie Raygun raised the debt ceiling 18 times during his presidency….

      Imagine ….18 times?

He was in office for 8 years – that is more than two times per year.

And then these Cock-Strutters are blithering about Obama spending all the money..

      I call B.S.

      • I know….I know..

Reagan was a white man…Obama is a black man……so, that must be what the problem is…..no matter how loud the PUKES squeal that they are not racists.
