  1. Are You Better Off Than You Were 4 Years Ago?

Guess what? The republicans want to talk about four years ago! I can hardly believe it either. 🙂

So to get the conversation started let’s remember that with the exception of that whole 911 thing George W. Bush kept America safe.

    More, much more to come!

  2. Is the country better off than it would have been if Republicans had been in charge for the past three and a half years?

Not just YES, but hell YES!

And no way are voters going to choose to go back to the days of Bush policies! In the six months before President Obama was elected, we lost 3.5 million jobs. That was four years ago! Today, we are adding jobs slowly — the losses have stopped. That’s better than four years ago!

Those silly republicans. They now want to talk about four years ago!

The economy was bleeding an average of 600,000 jobs a month during the last 6 months of the Bush administration and getting worse (800,000 jobs were lost in January 2009 alone). Since the stimulus bill, the economy has gained jobs for 29 consecutive months — not enough jobs to get anywhere near full employment, but to say that gaining 100,000 jobs a month is worse than losing 600,000 jobs a month isn’t even believable. Yes, we are better off than we were four years ago!

Several years ago, one of my best friends got upset at me and called me a S.O.B. Since then he did say he was sorry and he loved my mother as much as he did his own and he really felt bad at what he called her. NOT that he got mad at me since I was was wrong? As if I ever am!

I would not be at all surprized if the President did get some blame he happens to be the President when it all went to hell in a hand basket.
And people do tend to want to blame some =one if it it is not there fault and it is just that they are the one close.

  3. And, of course, except for that 911 thing George W. Bush kept Americans safe. Well… except for all the ‘other people’s kids’ he sent off to his war of choice in Iraq.

You do all realize Romney has the exact same defense policies as the man who was president when the single most devastating attack on American soil occurred, don’t you? You do realize we’re still struggling to pay off the war debts left to our country four years ago and that Romney wants to take us to new wars, don’t you?

No comment …except…. NEOCONS! NEOCONS! NEOCONS!!! back to me little corner and I will not bring them up again….neocons..kick dirt, kick dirt kick dirt.

  4. Yesterday the Democratic Party posted their platform online. They’re proud of it and want Americans to read it and know what the Party stands for!

    http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/fwd-democratic-party-releases-2012-platform-168418776.html

  5. The republicans aren’t proud of, nor are they touting, their platform and no one needs to wonder why once they read it! If Americans know what they stand for the republicans lose votes.

This is a reasoned piece from the American Association for the Advancement of Science – one of the most troubling lines in the piece: “The platform also criticizes the President Barack Obama’s Administration for issuing a National Security Strategy that “elevates ‘climate change’ to the level of a ‘severe threat’ equivalent to foreign aggression. The word ‘climate,’ in fact, appears in the current President’s strategy more often than Al Qaeda, nuclear proliferation, radical Islam, or weapons of mass destruction.” As long as the Republicans are in bed with the oil companies, they will ridicule those who support climate change legislation.

Republican Party Platform Has a Lot to Say About Science
    http://news.sciencemag.org/scienceinsider/2012/08/republican-party-platform-has-a-.html

    • But, according to John Boehner and many other Republicans, the GOP platform is just a piece of paper. Nobody ever reads them…..

If this is true….then why even write the damn crappola down?

  6. Last week, there was some discussion about that Obama movie .

I listen to NPR alot and that is where I heard the interview with the guy that made this Obama movie.

According to this guy – O bama is anti-colonialism and wants to right the wrong that was done to his father in Kenya.

This guy further went on spewing hois Obama is delierately tryin to bankrupt America so that our country becomes just another country and not the super power for good.

This line of B.S. feeds right into the Republicans who are Birthers, Tea Party and Fundy Christians (all people who have stated publicly and loudly that Obama is ‘not one of us’).

But, let’s see, if you take an objective look at our country’s history – there were white people that came from England and landed on Plymouth Rock and then set about to take over the land.

But…..wait…..there were Native American Indians already living in this new land the Pilgrims just laned.

In anyone’s book – if they are objective – wouldn’t these new Pilgrims be seen as the illegal immigrants these same Republicans are trying to deport from our borders today?

The Founding Fathers did come up with a wonderful thing called the Constitution and freedom – but at whose expense – the Indians who had been living in America for centuries before the white man ever set foot here?

I always have to wonder – do the Indians regret sharing their food and their wisdom on how to survive in America with the Pilgrims?

    • Let’s not forget – these Pilgrims were majority Puritans – and who are notoriously the folks that think they are morally superior.

So, what is so morally superior about killing off the Indians that was living in America when their lily white butts got here? Especially, after the Indians showed their willingness to cooperate during that first winter.

You see, the story of The First Thanksgiving sounds like a terrific story – doesn’t it?

The Indians and the Pilgrims all sat together and shared the feast. But one never hears……the rest of the story, do they?

The Indians did not get much more than the short end of the stick – and then the white people wonder why so many minorities do not trust them.

Maybe this is why all those white self-professing religious people have to keep threatetning others with their God that can beat up any other God?

  7. There will always be this kind of story in the news. Unfortunately, not any law will prevent this type of thing from happening.

But – how many political points will be scored with this story and others?

But one thing – this woman should have never been pregnant in the fist place. And wouldn’t it be better to have not have the tagedy of finding a dead baby in the trash bin? Or give her a legal way – or the mental help she obviously needs – to deal with a pregnancy if it occurs?

  8. In September of 2008 – the country lost 168,000 private sector jobs and the economy had been in recession since December of 2007. All of the following headlines came in September and October of 2008 before Obama won the election and thus before he became President.

Washington Post on 9/17/2008: “Wall Street’s business model has collapsed.“

Bloomberg on 10/13/2008: “Subprime collapse to global financial meltdown: Timeline“

NPR on 9/26/2008: “The week America’s economy almost died“

Pew Research on 10/12/2008: “ECONOMY SHRINKS, TACTICS GROW, IN MEDIA NARRATIVE“

WSJ on 9/15/2008: “Crisis on Wall Street as Lehman Totters, Merrill Is Sold, AIG Seeks to Raise Cash“

If you want to take a walk back in time to four years ago (the republicans actually want to talk about four years ago and compare then to now!) the link below takes you to where all the links above are live and you can read and read and read about just how bad it was four short years ago.

  9. This is how Romney answered a question from conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham back in January:

INGRAHAM: You’ve also noted that there are signs of improvement on the horizon in the economy. How do you answer the president’s argument that the economy is getting better in a general election campaign if you yourself are saying it’s getting better?

ROMNEY: Well, of course it’s getting better. The economy always gets better after a recession, there is always a recovery. […]

INGRAHAM: Isn’t it a hard argument to make if you’re saying, like, OK, he inherited this recession, he took a bunch of steps to try to turn the economy around, and now, we’re seeing more jobs, but vote against him anyway? Isn’t that a hard argument to make? Is that a stark enough contrast?

ROMNEY: Have you got a better one, Laura? It just happens to be the truth.

  10. The Romney campaign this week is basing its message off of former President Reagan’s “are you better off?” question from his 1980 campaign, even though Romney himself admitted in an interview earlier this year that “of course [the economy is] getting better” under President Obama. And the numbers don’t lie.

While the economy is only recovering slowly, the trend lines when it comes to jobs, wealth, and the success of American business are all moving in the right direction, as these charts by the Center for American Progress Action Fund’s Christian Weller show:

  11. You’re Damn Right We’re Better off; hundreds (yes hundreds) of reasons listed

‘How quickly we forget’ should be the theme of this year’s attacks on President Obama. Accomplish after accomplishment goes unrecognized and/or forgotten so the time has come to refresh your memory. Are we better off than we were four years ago? Simple answer is: You’re damn right we are.

  12. The $16 trillion debt is all Obama’s fault. He should’ve gone back in time and stopped Bush from invading Iraq for absolutely no reason. — Andy Borowitz

  13. The democrats are kicking republican butt at this convention! I’m tickled pink the conventions were so close and the comparison so easy. 🙂

  14. Didn’t Michelle Obama knock this speech out of the park? WOW…….

As I told my husband – Michelle took the little Blonde Barbie Doll and schooled her in how to give a speech.

The crowd at the DNC Convention seems to be more of average Americans. I don’t think there was one owner of a dancing horse in the bunch.

Just based on the choice of the two ladies in this race – I can relate to Michelle Obama much more than I can to Ann Romney.

BTW – Ann – MIchelle Obama’s father had M.S. and he went to work every day. And I suspect he did not have all those millions in off shore accounts to help him with his condition.
