  1. What Wisconsin Journalists Want You To Know About Paul Ryan

(from the link): Local Wisconsin reporters say that as the national media begins to scrutinize Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) life and career following his selection as Mitt Romney’s running mate, they may overlook details such as his inside-the-Beltway focus, the high level of unemployment in his hometown, and his family connection to the natural gas industry.

In the early stages of such reviews, news outlets are often dependent on the campaigns themselves, prior national coverage of the candidate, and even Wikipedia for insight and can miss the kind of information local reporters who have covered the vice presidential selection for years may know best.

One issue most journalists raised was that Ryan left Wisconsin at a young age and climbed the political ladder in Washington. One local scribe compared him to Dick Cheney in that regard, stating both men rose to the top by focusing on D.C. connections and not in home state political circles.

“The way to understand him is he is Dick Cheney, he is a guy who went to Washington as soon as he could, rooted himself in the establishment, got himself elected as soon as he could and became a major player,” said John Nichols, an associate editor at the Capital Times in Madison. “He is Dick Cheney with very good hair.”

  2. FLASHBACK to 2008 This is back when Bush2 was still in office (before the 2008 elections) and Ryan was advocating to save the free market by eliminating the free market. If anyone thinks Ryan is anything more than a republican partisan hack, listen to this and you’ll see he isn’t more, he isn’t different, he isn’t anything but words. There is NO walking the talk behind this man!

  3. Paul Ryan welcomed himself to the Romney campaign by claiming on 60 Minutes last night that he wants to eliminate the same kind of tax shelters where Mitt Romney hides his money. I kinda doubt we’ll hear this from him again. I think Ryan and Romney will have some meeting of the minds. Mitt Romney has his money scattered all over the world, so that he can avoid paying taxes. Do you really think for one second that if elected, Romney, a man who lives to financially enrich himself, is actually going to get rid of the tax shelters that keep his tax burden so low?

  4. This is truthful, and removes the veil of secrecy surrounding the empty words of Paul Ryan.

    The Ryan Role

  5. How long do you think it will take for the bloom to fall off this rose and reveal the true stinkweed?

No matter what Paul Ryan has done in Congress – this is the guy that still wants to ban birth control and thinks government’s role is to legislate women’s heatlh care.

Enough said. Game over. Time for the Women of America to show Mr. Ryan and his Mittster the exit door.

That’s the same door that the Susan Komen Foundation big wigs recently used….

    • I honestly think the Romney supporters will always like him and the Obama supporters never will.

He isn’t a game changer for women or minorities unless it’s to energize them. They now know the entire ticket is anti-women, and anti-minority so they may work harder to defeat them. Women and minorities will decide this election and we aren’t voting for Romney with or without Ryan.

Independents. I think there aren’t many who don’t lean one way or the other. Those that lean Democratic will vote Obama, those that lean Republican will vote Romney.

      Net change zero.

  6. On that ’60 Minutes ‘ interview – Paul Ryan said that President Obama picks the winners and losers.

WTF…. Romney and Ryan both want to keep giving oil subsidies but yet watn to stop giving subsidies to the wind and solar energy companies.

I guess that is NOT picking winners and losers?

From what I’ve seen so far – this is a Dream Team – for the Democrats.

As if we didn’t have enough scary info about Ryan, did you all know this?

    From Wiki:
“Following his studies, he worked as an aide to United States Senator Bob Kasten of Wisconsin, as legislative director for Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas, and as a speechwriter for former U.S. Representative and 1996 Republican vice presidential nominee Jack Kemp of New York.”

Oh yeah, he belongs to the same wingnut club as our budget destroying governator, and, since Ryan is Catholic, I wonder if he is also Opus Dei.

  8. Interesting reading. But, then again, when I saw the Romneys and Ryans together – they are your typical wealthy white Republicans – with the appropriate lovely little Mrs on their arm – and both women are blonde.

I wonder how that will play in the real world?

  9. My theory on why Romney picked Paul Ryan :

Romney was sinking very fast with his own GOP base. No matter what this $250 million dollar did or say – folks were just not that enthused with Mitt.

I think the deicsion was made to put Paul Ryan on the ticket – it would excite their base – and with Ryan still on the ballot back home for his Congressional seat (which is considered safe) – what is the worst case scenario? Romney loses but Ryan is still in th teCongress to cause trouble.

I think Romney knew he had to do something very fast before getting to that convention – the lions in that particular den was looking for something to eat.

    • I agree with you! He did need to do something before the convention to save his own neck. He was sinking in the polls really badly, and the electoral college predictions are dismal. So he’s chosen to pander to his ‘base.’ Meanwhile he has accomplished nothing to attract any votes except those he already had. Maybe they’ll vote for him with more enthusiasm, but they were going to hold their noses and vote for him anyway.

It still puzzles me why ‘conservatives’ always think they need to ‘shore up’ their base. As I said before, it’s fine and dandy with me that they care nothing about the women’s vote, the minority vote, the independent voters and concentrate solely on their ‘base.’ It just seems like a silly campaign strategy.

    • Here’s the take from The Votemaster —

Romney’s Inner Circle Opposed Ryan as Veep Candidate

Initially when the subject of the running mate came up, much of Romney’s inner circle was opposed to the choice of Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) because they feared the effects his budget would have on seniors, especially in Florida. His campaign staff wanted Tim Pawlenty since he wouldn’t stir up much controversy and wouldn’t hurt in any states. However, Romney overruled his staff, in part because he likes Ryan and gets along with him well. But he was surely aware of a large number of national polls and swing state polls in the past weeks showing him behind and not gaining. He also desperately wanted to change the national conversation from his tax returns to something else and a bold pick for running mate might be his only chance. Whether this was a good idea will start to become apparent in the next two weeks as pollsters begin asking about Ryan.

      • If Romney thinks the media buzz about his refusal to release his tax returns is going away any time soon – Paul Ryan did not help that issue last night in that interview when he said he would only release two years of tax returns to the public – even though it was reported the Romney campaign got several more years worth of those tax returns.

  10. We’ve talked a bit about the military types that aren’t anyone to admire or respect.

I want to make it clear that there are many — in fact I still believe MOST — who are people who have earned the utmost of respect and admiration.

Back to the ones who haven’t. We’ve talked about this type person also being in our law enforcement agencies. The “I’ve got a gun” attitude that we all recognize is not healthy. This is an interesting piece about these right-wing extremists.

Sikh Temple Shooting Returns Attention To Military’s White Power Problem

Researchers and analysts who’ve studied the ties between military service and right-wing extremism weren’t surprised by Wade Michael Page’s attack on a Sikh temple in Wisconsin.

    • Why should we be surprised? We train these young people to kill in these Muslim countries and when these trained killers return to our bordrers, the Hate Talk Radio 24/7 and Foxxies in the Hen House keep the hatred pot stirred .

Wehn these same people talk about Obama not being ‘one of us’ – what does that tell the listening audience?

It’s that contant fear mongering – and then we train them to kill – and then we wonder why our coiuntry is so damn violent?

As for my theory about why we have such a violent society – there was a time when churches and people as a group valued the traits of trying to get along, honesty, integrity and caring about the other person.

In today’s churches – most are nothing more than corporations with exclusive social clubs. As for honesty and integrity – those valued traits are long gone – with the help of those church leaders who care more about money than they do their professed love of their Jesus.

There used to be a time when bullies were considered a bad thing. Sad to say, being a bully today is a badge of honor to some people. Sadder yet – those people are also these in the corporate churches.

      • The gawd of intolerance and punishment isn’t new but it does seem more are following that hate agenda, or at least they get the publicity. Look at Pat Robertson who gets a television show to spread his hate and intolerance. We don’t hear enough about any church that welcomes everyone.

  11. If the commentators who say choosing Ryan makes this an election about the future are correct, what will Ryan and republicans do after they lose? Once America tells them their plan to fundamentally change — wipe out — Medicare isn’t the way to save it for the future generations, will they adjust? Will they pay attention? They haven’t paid any attention so far, so I don’t think they will. It seems to me they are obsessed with their own ideas and don’t care about what anyone else, including the majority of Americans, thinks.

    • They have doubled down – if they lose in November – these same folks will triple down…….

Or else the GOP will implode….

I do not see any other way….because these are the same folks that had dinner in Washington DC plotting how they were going to bring down Obama and this was while the Obama’s Inaguration was going on – just down the street.

Maybe all these Republicans are really nothing more than Benedict Arnold?

  12. This is an article about the republican claim that the President cuts $700 billion from Medicare with Obamacare. It’s another lie the republicans spread and believe. It’s easy to make republicans believe stuff that sounds bad about President Obama.

(from the link): It’s pretty easy to understand … insurance companies stand to lose $500 billion off this whole deal and they want their corporate welfare. It isn’t complicated when you cut through all of the B.S.

  13. Has anyone seen or heard how many American jobs that Romney and Bain have created?

I mean – net gain – of American jobs.

I would be interested to know how many Amiercan jobs were shipped overeas under Romney/Bain and how many Ameircan jobs were actually created under Romney/Bain.

Inquiring minds would like to know…

AFter all – Romney is telling he is more qualified to be president because he has been in the private sector creating jobs. …… So prove it…

    • BTW – what is preventing Romney and Bain from creating Amerian jobs today?

These folks cannot use the fact that Obama hates business and is making it imposible for businesses to make a profit – not with all these corporations reporting those record-braking profits.

      • The pledge to do everything it takes to keep President Obama to a one-term president. They honestly don’t care about America, and they certainly don’t plan to do anything that might strengthen America’s economy or jobs numbers.

        That’s one possibility.

The other one, and the one I believe, is that they care most about money. There is more money to be made overseas so that’s where they take their jobs.

    • Depends on what you want to believe. I think all kinds of figures and numbers have been stated.

Proof isn’t something Romney does. You just have to trust him. He kinda wrinkles up his forehead and looks really really sincere when he asks you to trust him… No matter how many different positions he takes!

In fact I heard a female porn star came out in support of Romney. One of the things she said she admires is that he has more positions than she does. 🙂

  14. Maybe Democrats should make a deal with Romney and Ryan – if they gut the safety net social programs – all those corporate churches will be mandated to pick up the slack – or lose their tax-free status.

Do you think good these Fundies, Catholics and Mormons will go for that?

  15. Do you think Romney will offer some details of his budget plan? He said last evening on 60 Minutes that he has a budget plan and that’s what they’ll be running on (he was trying to get out of his past statements supporting The Ryan Plan). So will he make the distinctions plain and clear? Will he offer up more than just his word which we all know can’t be trusted?

  16. (from the link): By tapping Ryan, and thus agreeing to take on the fourteen years of far-right baggage Ryan brings with him, Romney has all but announced to the world that he is folding his hand and ceding control of the party to the whacked-out denizens of his right flank.

Here is Paul Ryan in one sentence: He is an acolyte of Ayn Rand’s sinister school of thought that human beings are only worth what they can earn or be sold for in the marketplace…

…eviscerate Medicare and make growing old in America the equivalent of growing poor again, a job-killer who wants to do away with Pell Grants in an age when educated workers are becoming harder and harder to find, a family friend of Big Oil, and let’s not forget that he was a member of that very very very special cadre of House Republicans who signed a bill to make fertilized eggs into people so as to outlaw abortion, in vitro fertilization and many forms of birth control.

  17. Paul Ryan’s family got rich and fat off generations of taxpayer-funded highway construction contracts. To put it another way, the guy who’s worth $7.7 million didn’t “build that.”

  18. It sounds like Romney and Bain operated much like a few nursing home corporations that I have seen in my lifetime.

I worked at one nursing home and this Texas corporation bought us and a few more throughout Kansas.

The first thing that happened was – all the revenue from all payment sources – Medicare, Medicaid adn private pay were now sent to the4Corporate office.

They took off their management fees adn then slowly dribbled back some money that we were supposed to run the building.

And – all the bills were sent to corporate office to pay – we received these bills at the local nursing home but the actual paying of these bill was handled by corporate.

We started getting phone calls from the electric company, the gas company, the phone company, the food vendors, the medical supplies companies that the bills were not being paid. We were threatened more than once to be cut off by the electric and gas companies – and the phone company – and the food vendors all put us on ‘COD’ only status.

We had patients in our building that we were responsible for their health and welfare – but yet had absolutely no control over where the money was or where it went.

This corporation was known to be this type of a company – because they went from state to state repeating the very same crappola.

Nursing homes are surveyed by the State in order to keep their license. Of course, alot of deficiencies were written but we were always given chances to clean up our act. By the time this corporation piddled and diddled stalling for more time to fix things – they were busy lining up the big deal to sell these buildings to the next guy – who may, or may not, do the exact same thing.

This is Vulture CApitalism at its worst. Like I said – I’ve seen this happen in the nursing home business and it is not a pretty sight.

When the only thing that matters is how much profit the big CEO types make – then there is nothing good in that picture.

    • The kicker to my story is – this Texas corporation sold the nursing homes to a guy who was already in their company.

But , since he was a new owner and a new company name – all those deficiencies from the previous surveys were null and void. In other words – it was a new slate for the new guy.

So the new guy did exactly what the old guy did…….imagine that..

  19. Slate is reporting this —

Paul Ryan attended a closed meeting with congressional leaders, Bush’s Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on September 18, 2008. The purpose of the meeting was to disclose the coming economic meltdown and beg Congress to pass legislation to help collapsing banks.

Instead of doing anything to help, Ryan left the meeting and on that very same day Paul Ryan sold shares of stock he owned in several troubled banks and reinvested the proceeds in Goldman Sachs, a bank that the meeting had disclosed was not in trouble.

    • But, but……Paul Ryan is going to ban all birth control and legislate women’s health care – so that will make America safe, strong and be that shining city on the hill.

You know – Romney and Ryan keep talking about how they want to take America back……

And this is what it means……women have no rights and only the wealthy, white men who are politically connected have the first run to cash in their bad stocks and get the good stuff.
