Mitt Romney: Israel’s economic success over Palestinians ‘due to providence’
Speech in Jerusalem puts Israel’s accomplishments down to ‘power of at least culture and a few other things’
“And as I come here and I look out over this city and consider the accomplishments of the people of this nation, I recognize the power of at least culture and a few other things,” the presumptive Republican candidate told his audience.
A Lovefest Between Milton Friedman and J.M. Keynes
Libertarians worship Milton Friedman, and liberals lionize John Maynard Keynes. But a long-lost essay shows that the champion of small government admired the prince of the New Deal.
While Friedman spent most of his life insisting that Keynesian measures had led governments to grow too large, in this devastating critique of the American system of government he concedes not only that Keynesianism can work but that big government is not evil so long as it is honestly administered.
You know, I may be naive, but how do the Jews and Palestines think they will EVER solve their long history of war between themselves over religion?
I’ve read reports where the younger generation of Jews and Palestines do not feel the way their older generations feel – and they are inter-marrying.
Is the Jew and Palestineian thing like our blacks and whites things here in Ameirca?
There used to be a time if when a black and white married, they were demonized. Now that is common and the majority of Americans are not shocked anymore.
I guess I just don’t get it……the world is only so big and we really don’t have a choice to get off the planet or not.
So why not just try to work out a compromise and learn to live with one another?
I have great confidence in our younger generation when it comes to treating ALL people equally. They are much farther developed than any of us old coots!
Do you think it has to do with them always living in a ‘global’ community? From birth they’ve interacted with people all over the world, so they have knowledge and understanding older generations never did. Knowledge is always the key!
I think you’re on to something there, fnord. As we have seen, it seems the more ‘fundamental’ a person is, their views are more black and white.
We have watched as the GOP used their Southern Strategy to win elections – and now we have the current crop of GOP Krazee Kousin Klowns running the show.
And what has been the most problematic issue for thie GOP? they have turned off minoriteis, women, gays and moderates/independents that don’t like this black and white way of looking at the world.
The M1 Abrams tank has survived the Cold War, two conflicts in Iraq and a decade of war in Afghanistan. No wonder – it weighs as much as nine elephants and is fitted with a cannon capable of turning a building to rubble from two and a half miles away.
But now the machine finds itself a target in an unusual battle between the Defense Department and lawmakers who are the beneficiaries of large donations by its manufacturer.
The Pentagon, facing smaller budgets and looking towards a new global strategy, has decided it wants to save as much as $3 billion by freezing refurbishment of the M1 from 2014 to 2017, so it can redesign the hulking, clanking vehicle from top to bottom.
Its proposal would idle a large factory in Lima, Ohio, as well as halt work at dozens of subcontractors in Pennsylvania, Michigan and other states.
Opposing the Pentagon’s plans is Abrams manufacturer General Dynamics, a nationwide employer that has pumped millions of dollars into congressional elections over the last decade. The tank’s supporters on Capitol Hill say they are desperate to save jobs in their districts and concerned about undermining America’s military capability.

Do you think those companies could be retrofitted to produce something that is needed? Perhaps for the same or less cost? Why is it we don’t look for innovative solutions?
In the future wars – is this tank really necessary? I guess that is what I would be asking…
Along with this question – if General Dyanmics can pump millions of dollars into congressional elections – then why can’t they redesign their product for the future needs?
Isn’t it interesting to hear that Congress Critters are whining and moaning about these workers but yet the Wisconsin Govenor and fellow RePUKES demonized the public service workers as being lazy, greedy and not needed.
Or, what about the Detroit automaker workers? Which party has demonized those workers – it was the GOP.
When Obama pumped tax dollars into the automakers – which party stomped their little feet and yelled like a spoiled brat? the GOP.
But NOW we are supposed to keep paying General Dynamics alot of tax money for tanks that we don’t need?
This is why politics is so frustrating…….GRRRRRR…..
To be reasonable – one has to have the capacity to put themselves into the other person’s shoes………today’s religious right do NOT think they have to tolerate anyone or anything else.
Because their God has told them they are his favorites.
There is nothing more dangerous than a radical religious type on a perceived mission from their God.
Health care in Israel is universal and participation in a medical insurance plan is compulsory. Health care coverage is administered by a small number of organizations, with funding from the government. All Israeli citizens are entitled to the same Uniform Benefits Package, regardless of which organization they are a member of, and treatment under this package is funded for all citizens regardless of their financial means. Generally, health care in Israel is of high-quality and is delivered in an efficient and effective manner. Partly as a result of this, at an overall 82 years, Israelis enjoy the fourth-longest life expectancy in the world as of 2012.
Mitten$ in a speech while in Jerusalem —
“Do you realize what health care spending is as a percentage of the G.D.P. in Israel? 8%,” he said. “You spend 8% of G.D.P. on health care. You’re a pretty healthy nation. We spend 18% of our G.D.P. on health care, 10 percentage points more. That gap, that 10% cost, compare that with the size of our military — our military which is 4%, 4%. Our gap with Israel is 10 points of G.D.P. We have to find ways — not just to provide health care to more people, but to find ways to fund and manage our health care costs.”
I wish he’d decide if he was for or against it. This saying whatever needs to be said to appease certain people is making him look bad, and he isn’t smart enough to know it.
I am just curious – has any Republican demonized Israel for having Universal Health Care – ie Socialized Medicine?
Again – I ask – how much tax dollars have we given to Israel over the years? Why are we giving them foreign aid if those people can have Universal Health Care and Ameircans do not?
I’m still wondering why it’s okay, fine and dandy, for American tax dollars to buy health insurance for all Iraqis. I won’t pretend to know how a republican thinks and what they might think about Israelis getting universal health care coverage. I have heard them say it’s an outrage when it applies to Europeans. I can’t make any sense of what they say…
The man can’t seem to stick to one topic. It’s like he realizes that if he says what he’s thinking, it’s going to sound like he’s against whatever he’s said he’s for or he’s for whatever he’s said he’s against. That’s the problem with a flip-flopper. After a while, they don’t know if they’re supposed to be flipping or flopping.
On this day in 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signs Medicare, a health insurance program for elderly Americans, into law. At the bill-signing ceremony, which took place at the Truman Library in Independence, Missouri, former President Harry S. Truman was enrolled as Medicare’s first beneficiary and received the first Medicare card. Johnson wanted to recognize Truman, who, in 1945, had become the first president to propose national health insurance, an initiative that was opposed at the time by Congress.

I have a column being published this week in the Hays Daily in response to a hateful and bigoted LTE that appeared on Friday. When it’s published, I’ll put it here, since it’s only four paragraphs long.
It didn’t take very many words to slap knots on that wingnut’s head.
Don’t you wish just once that we were truly free to say exactly what we think – without being threatened with repercussions down the line?
I am faced with that dilemma at this moment. I have a few choice words to say to my supervisor – but if I did, I am pretty sure the retaliation would be just like the tea served at those Tea Parties – very rancid and very bitter.
I guess this toadstool thinks I am working for my health. She is a Tea Party type and sometimes it is all I can do to keep big mouth closed. Let’s just say it is a good thing I only work the weekends and don’t have to see this BIOTCH throughout the week! LMAO
The remark has been made that I am lucky to be able to work for pocket money.
Yeah – lady – you try having cancer turn your world upside down and drain your savings account (and we HAD health insurance). And then this BIOTCH thinks I am working the weekends because it is for my pocket money?
We still have bills to pay from my cancer – this is what I think these self-righteous types just don’t understand — health care is outrageously priced and even with insurance – there are still bills to pay.
And – if this BIOTCH would think – while I was laying in that hospital for 32 days being gutted like a fish adn then given chemo treatments for 7 months – I was not exactly able to work to make money to pay for those things that the health insurance found a loophole not to pay.
And while we’re talking about hospitals – that hospital was paid $168,000 for my stay at their lovely 5-star (Yeah, right) hotel – the week when I arrived home – I was continually harassed by their billing department to pay up the remaining balance of my bill – my deductible and other expenses that were not covered by insurance.
BTW – this was at a CAtholic Hospital – you know, where these self-righteous types profess to be on a mercy mission for their Jesus. Yeah, that billing department lady told me to divorce my husband, go on welfare so that they would be paid their remaining balance.
Yeah – that’s those family values, Jesus-loving, traditional marriage pushers and the gay bashers religious right types – telling me to divorce my husband.

I agree with the person that goes by the nic Duchess
— bar Planned Parenthood’s network of clinics, which serve millions of women across the country, from receiving any federal money unless the health group agreed to no longer offer abortion services for which it uses no federal dollars — a patently unconstitutional provision.
— It would also eliminate financing for Title X, the effective federal family-planning program for low-income women that provides birth control, breast and cervical cancer screenings, and testing for sexually-transmitted diseases.
— the bill would prevent implementation of most of the Affordable Care Act, wiping out its numerous advances for women’s health. It would seriously weaken the requirement that employee insurance plans cover birth control and other preventive health services by allowing any employer to opt out based on personal religious beliefs or moral objections.
Why, Republican males love their women – as long as they are in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant – and making them their supper while the Master of the Household sits in his recliner watching the latest erectile dysfunction pills advertisement.
And – scratching himself – but that goes without saying, doesn’t it?
We are not done with the primary elections yet. Key Senate primaries are still on tap in Hawaii, Missouri, Texas, and Wisconsin. The first one is tomorrow in Texas where Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst (R-TX), a multimillionaire supported by Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) and the entire Republican establishment in Texas and Washington is in the fight of his life against tea party insurgent Ted Cruz. Dewhurst beat Cruz in the first round 45% to 34% but failed to break 50%, so there is a runoff tomorrow. A PPP poll released yesterday has Cruz ahead 52% tp 42%. Make no mistake, the tea party is going all out for Cruz because they know the Republican–no matter which one–will win this open seat against a Democrat who will also be chosen Tuesday. Sarah Palin, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), and Rick Santorum are all rooting for Cruz.
This is an exceptionally interesting article, written by a conservative about our president.
Love Classic Republican Foreign Policy? Vote For Obama
Pundits and, for that matter, the Obama campaign were right to ding Mitt Romney’s foreign policy address Tuesday for banging the table instead of putting anything substantive on it. But what could Romney do? Obama has given him almost nothing to work with. Foreign affairs won’t decide the 2012 election, but, if it did, President Obama would win walking away.
Wicked, that is so very cool. I know a couple of ladies here who were WACs. They are too cool for school, both of ’em. I knew a few Rosie the Riveters too, and I think they all worked in Wichita at one time or another. You guys are probably knee deep in Rosies.
And yet, the men want to take away their choices.
Nuke ’em. I think the girls could do it given half a chance. We could McGyver them with mud, charcoal, salt peter and sticks. But we can’t make our own reproductive decisions without a man?
She wasn’t in long. She had some serious medical problems and was given a medical discharge. There are some pictures in a box that I ran across of where she was stationed. Up near NY, if I remember. Of course it was long before I came along.
Later, she was a member of an American Legion group of women. Not an auxiliary, but a real post. I was probably younger than 10, but I remember the ladies. A few WACs and a woman Marine, whatever they’re called. She lived with a female friend. I never found that unusual. I was fully grown before I realized these two women were lesbians, and it was like, well, yeah. A few years before my mother died and during some religious brainwashing by a couple of churches, she mentioned to me that she didn’t believe gays should marry, that homosexuality wasn’t normal. I ripped her on that, reminding her of her friends. She backed down and finally admitted that they should have had the right to marry.
I had a similar experience with my Mom. She was a strong woman — actually had more experiences where strength is gained than I would have ever wished for any person. Anyway she too was brainwashed by a church and voted (in Missouri )for their bigot law of excluding same-sex marriages.
Sje regretted that as much as she regretted anything.
Why Romney keeps attacking things Obama didn’t say
Mitt Romney’s ongoing distortion of Obama’s “didn’t build that” quote has been debunked by FactCheck.org, Politifact, the Associated Press, and many others. Romney’s other leading distortion of the moment — his use of Obama’s claim that “our” plan “worked,” in which Obama was talking about the Clinton/Obama approach to taxes, not Obama’s economic policies — was dismantled convincingly today by Post fact checker Glenn Kessler.
So how is the Romney campaign responding? Easy. It will make both quotes central to the campaign for the coming week, and likely beyond.
The above opinion piece is interesting, but I still think the reason Romney will continue to exaggerate and downright lie is because he can. Because his constituents are gullible and badly want to believe Romney actually is on to something that will help his campaign be effective.
Romney’s targeted audience – and the ones the has to have their votes to even register on the vote counter – are those folks who are Tea Party Mad Hatters and these Religious Right folks.
And both of these groups have demonstrated that they do not care what happens to the country – just so long as they win.
Winning is the only thing these folks care about – for example, the Tea Party House Republicans were the ones that shouted down John Boehner after Boehner and Obama came to an agreement over the debt ceiling issue. Remember?
It was the Tea Party folks that actually wanted America to default on its debts. These people do not care……
The Religious Right folks are so busy demonizng the only true Christian who is actually running for president in 2012. I do find it quite funny (and pathetic) that these Jesus-lovers are supporting a Mormon (whose religion has been labeled a cult by these same Fundy Evangelical Christians) just because they hate the black man in the White House so much.
And let’s not forget – most of these Fundy Evangelicals are from the Deep South – so, I do think it is a racial thing – in many of their minds.
Did you read or hear about this? Now this is interesting….Obama is related to the first US slave – but it is through his mother’s family …
I don’t know about you – but I was offended last week when Romney kept yammering on and on about the special Anglo-Saxon relationship that America has with the British.
Why even bring that up – unless, of course, you want to bring attention to the fact that Obama is black – and by merely being black, Obama is ‘not one of us’?
What is the most frustrating and saddest fact of all? When Obama became president – I had hopes that our country would finally learn to come together and try to be united . Obama is not only black – but he is white and black. And what a terrible waste we h ave seen in the last 3 1/2 yeasrs of ‘whats could have been’ – you know what I mean?
But, then agai, the folks that did not wan to be united are theose asme folks that side with Israel every time and be their attack dog. And how many years has Israel and the rest of the Middle East been fighting ?
Maybe if I had heard the entire speech this wouldn’t sound so awkward? Maybe Mitten$ really is awkward? Do read the article. Jesus wept.
Score one for the kid! 🙂

Some people are just born to fight…….

Now this is what intelligent, independent and strong women look like and sound like – and then put their goals into action.
I love this woman —-Elizabeth Warren……

I agree 100%, indy. She’s a winner.
Me too!
Lots of money supporting Scott Brown! From what I can find out, it’s a close race that could go either way.

Great points contained in this piece. Agressive is a good description of the tax planning strategy possibly involved.
