Happy St. Paddy’s day, Y’all! How’s that for multicultural?
As David Mixner said today, it’s ironic that lgbt people can get married in New York today, but they can’t march in the St. Patrick’s Day parade. He says many politicians now avoid the parade, but it’s still the official parade.
Can you imagine if the parade did not allow Jewish people or African American people? I guess we have really not come too far from the days of “no Irish need apply.”
Oh yeah, and I meant to also say that the best time I ever had on March 17 was in Wichita, 27 years ago. I was dating a very sweet man and we went bar hopping with his mom, and his sis and boyfriend. We had waaaay too much green beer and stopped to get White Castle burgers on the way home. Yum. I will never forget that day that ran into night. It might have been the last of the days of relative innocence. I wasn’t even 30 yet.
Why Conservatives Are Still Crazy After All These Years

But are right-wingers scarier now than in the past? They certainly seem stranger and fiercer. I’d argue, however, that they’ve been this crazy for a long time. Over the last sixty years or so, I see far more continuities than discontinuities in what the rightward twenty or thirty percent of Americans believe about the world. The crazy things they believed and wanted were obscured by their lack of power, but they were always there – if you knew where to look. What’s changed is that loony conservatives are now the Republican mainstream, the dominant force in the GOP.
There might be a point there, I certainly do not remember it being this extreme before. Some might be with the invention of Fox News channel and its very extreme views. That is just got to be more acceptable and soon it became the normal and caused the silence of the less extreme GOP.. Going with the flow has cause the entire party to lose its core and sensiblity. It is a lot more fun to be a Rush dildo head I guess. (No that is not a misspelling)
Well, if you’re rich enough you can buy just about anything it seems. Does anyone else see hypocrisy in this? While the common folk go through the dog and pony show that makes the gullible think they’re safe, we should just accept that anyone who might be a threat would be among those who don’t buy special favor status? Simply pay a one time fee of $100 and you can keep your shoes, belts and jackets on as you walk through a metal detector. You are also allowed to keep laptops and liquids in carry-on bags.

My people are now “the Irish” I guess.

I’ve had many great St. Paddys days! Some of them I talk about, some I don’t. I can’t think of any right now that I blog about on a public blog. 🙂

I think they are just coming out of the closet. They HAVE always been just this crazy, but they managed to keep it somewhat hidden.
Now, they are empowered to let their freak flag fly. And we all suffer from it.
