  1. It seems Congress is the millionaires’ home away from home – or better put – the true source of their wealth? Not because of the Congressional pay (which is too much IMHO) but due to to all those golden opportunities to amass even more wealth from their power – both in and out of Congress because that is where the big payoff is – out of Congress doing all that lobbyist work.

Oh, right, I keep forgetting – Newt was not a lobbyist – he was simply being a ‘historian’ for Freddie Mac. Yeah, sure, Newt – big eye roll.

    • I heard Ben Nelson last night giving the reason for his retirement as – this is the classic one – he wants to spend more time with his family.

Why do I suspect his ‘real’ family are all those lobbyists who are probably lining up to line his pockets even more?

Oh, yeah, this guy also said something about looking forward to serving his country in other ways……..yeah, like we need another lobbyist…..

This country is doomed unless and until we get this corrupted-by-money government in check. Some Republicans think that the Tea Party and these Evangelical Christian Republicans are going to clean up Washington. What a crock of B.S. – these folks are teaching the old dogs (some blue like Ben Nelson) some new tricks when it comes to bait and switch con games to get money into THEIR hands.

  2. I would like to add one more ingredient to the above cartoon – arrogance.

I’ve never seen so many ignorant people so PROUD to be ignorant – now that is arrogance…

  3. Sounds like it is Ron Paul in Iowa…. Good, hope it is. Romney and Gingrich will be livid and even more on the attack.

Besides, IIRC – Mike Huckabee won Iowa in 2008 and when was the last time we discussed President Huckabee?

  4. I can’t even conceive of an America that has stooped to the level where any of the republican candidates could be elected. Each of them would exclude so many Americans from “We The People.” That wouldn’t be America.

    • Just think about the way these republican candidates speak openly (nothing hidden any longer) about gays, minorities, women, poor…

When they say they want to take America back they no longer even attempt to disguise their desire to take the country back to the time when wealthy white male landowners were the ONLY decision makers.

  5. Did the Citizens United decision cement the takeover of America? Are we now well past turning back from our fate as serfs who serve the wealthy? Republicans protect tax breaks and special perks for the rich — an entire party from a two-party system no longer even pretends to represent anyone but the wealthy. It is unfair, and in fact disgusting, that America has become an oligarchy where government functions to meet the needs of an economic elite. George Orwell couldn’t have written a more dismal scenario of a bloodless willing coup d’etat by the corporate class. Landed aristocrats were never more than a tiny part of the population, nor are billionaires today, yet America is well on her way (maybe already there) to a time when the quality of a person is established the moment they are born into one of “the better families.”

    • There is another ‘personhood’ movement afloat – that is the one where fertilized embryos would be a person entitled to all Constitutional rights.

If that goes through and only wealthy landowners have the power and wealthy – who is going to pay for all these newfound ‘persons’?

No jobs, no social net, no compassion from weatlthy and elite and certain no let-up on the wealthy and elite’s constant demand for the 99% to keep paying for their fatted calves – just exactly what type of country will America become?

  6. As I was reading about Ron Paul’s infamous racist-filled newsletters – I remember reading where Mr. Paul predicted a race war was coming.

But how can we have a race war when the economic war has already been declared by the 1% against the 99%

Things are going to get uglier sooner than later if these GOP clowns keep flapping their gums.

As I see it – we already have been told what these GOP candidates want:

    1) Iran War – because we all should hate Muslims
    2) Economic War – because the 1% should continue to get favored-citizen standing when it comes to the 99% paying to make the 1% even wealthier.
    3) Race War – why not? In the GOP’s eyes – a race war is so convenient to keep the 99% distracted while the 1% continue to rape the American taxpayers.

    4) The God War – I cannot leave this one out – as evidenced by these Evangelical Christian Republicans – they don’t want anyone to worship any god but the one they worship. Why, these folks even hate fellow Christians – if those Christians dare to say that Jesus was a compassionate liberal that loved the homeless, poor, hungry and the sick. Imagine – a Jesus that believed in doing good things simply because it was the good and moral thing to do? What hogwash – at least that is what these Faux Evangies are trying to tell the rest of us.

    • I agree if any one of the so-called ‘family values’ candidates / elected officials can push it through we will have a ‘god war.’ It will be a ‘battle’ on two fronts: whose god is superior, and moves to enact religious-based fundamentalist laws. Any laws which aren’t religion neutral will be an affront to the Constitution. It doesn’t matter which religion because in this regard what Sharia law does to women’s rights, and what christian law does to gay rights is an equal abomination to the constitution. You can read all about the ‘god war’ plans in the book, “The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power,” by Jeff Sharlet.

How many of those C-Street boys are already in position? There is no more effective way to control the masses then to invoke religion, keep them stupid and scare the living hell out of them. Put the fear of god in them…

  7. Maybe these Republicans are like the Bible Thumpers when beating someone over the head with their version of the Bible and yelling ‘why don’t you want to go to Heaven?”.

As being a person who has been beaten over the head by one of these Betty Bible Thumpers – I told her straight to her face – If you’re going to be in Heaven – why the hell would I ever want to go?

Don’t these faux Christians get that message? Actions speak louder than words and if you’re so hellbent on preaching down to everyone else that you make life on Earth unpleasant – why the Hell would anyone want to spend eternity with such an arrogant ass?

  8. The New York Times today has a quick run down of the biggest applause lines Rick Perry receives out on the campaign trail in Iowa. The Times reports that the crowd at one of Perry’s speeches “perked up” when the Texas governor talked energy and oil. “Every barrel of oil that comes out of those sands in Canada is a barrel of oil that we don’t have to buy from a foreign source,” Perry said, adding that buying so much energy from foreign countries is “not good policy, it’s not good politics and frankly it‘s un-American.”

Canada isn’t a foreign country?? Just because they are on the same continent doesn’t mean they are not foreign — we are still spending money on non-domestic oil if we buy the tar sands oil from them. Funny thing is — we’d be spending a lot more! Consider the fact that the republicans want America to build and maintain Canada’s oil pipeline and refineries and then pay for the damn stuff on top of that — it’s a double whammy!

    • I agree we need to stop being dependet on the Middle East oil but those who are pushing the hardest for the Canada oil supply might also be those who stand to make the most profit off that new pipeline that these Republicans tried to use as a bargaining chip in the recent payroll tax cut extension fight?

As always – follow the money….

  9. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama continue to be named by Americans as the Most Admired Woman and Most Admired Man living today in any part of the world. Clinton has been the Most Admired Woman each of the last 10 years, and Obama has been the Most Admired Man four years in a row.
