I just heard the following statistic on TV: it used to be that there were 16 working contributors to the social security fund per each person who was actually receiving social security. Today, they reported that there are now only 3 working contributors to the fund for each person already on social security.

So, if those statistics are accurate, I concede that we do need to make some long term decisions about how to maintain the fund, but wouldn’t a national health care plan for everyone increase the pool and balance out the risk? Or would that just compound the problem? My mathematical skills are pretty weak, so some of you may be able to help me out in understanding this better.

  2. I talked to PrairiePond yesterday. She is very busy! A dear friend has been ill and work has been demanding. Always thinking of someone else, PrairiePond was driving to the hospital to be with her friend and called to make sure we know her blogging friends are not far from her thoughts. She wished everyone on the blog her best and says she’ll be here first chance she gets. Very special lady! Like everyone else here. How did we get so lucky? Let’s just remember to count our blessings and not take them for granted ever!
