“A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.” Martin Luther King, Jr.

Blast from the past — Geo. Bush and how he’s going to create a surplus by 2010

President Bush argued in February 2001 that his fiscal policy “returns . . . the surplus to the American taxpayers”.

In his 2001 testimony to Congress, then Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan supported President Bush by offering projections of “an on-budget surplus of almost $500 billion . . . in fiscal year 2010.” The National Debt would soon be retired and the Boomer’s retirements secure. Greenspan offered a projection of “an implicit on-budget surplus under baseline assumptions well past 2030 despite the budgetary pressures from the aging of the baby-boom generation, especially on the major health programs.”

Mr Bush also said in February 2001: “After paying the bills, my plan reduces the national debt, and fast. So fast, in fact, that economists worry that we’re going to run out of debt to retire. That would be a good worry to have.”

What actually happened was this: Geo. Bush inherited a national debt of 5.7 TRILLION

and left us, after two wars, massive tax cuts for the rich, money in the mail (tax “rebates”), and practically no JOB GROWTH with a debt of about 11 TRILLION.

EPIC FAIL.

Who do you think is bat shit crazy?  Who could you never vote for and earnestly hope never achieves public office?

I do indeed think all three women pictured above are not someone who should be representing anyone but themselves, and that each of them represents themselves very poorly.  I would include Sharron Angle with this bunch (I think she kept Harry Reid from being booted out of office for which I may never forgive her)!

I could never vote for one of these people, but there are others who could and have!  We must hold differing opinions of who is an acceptable candidate for public office!  That’s probably why we hold elections.

The world will not come to an end and America will survive whoever runs or is elected.  We survived Bush and you will survive Obama!  We each think a little worse for the wear but we’d put different names as the one we hold responsible.  Differences.  Thank goodness!

I think I can, I think I can, I KNOW I can make political discourse civil!

Definitely!  We are all so sure of our own opinions!

I find our political discourse unsavory and want it to change.  I long for discussions about our different ideas and candidates that may be heated but remain civil.  I actually long even more for qualified candidates who would make us all proud they represent us.  It should be possible to compromise.  Maybe our blog could start a revolution of political discourse that is civil!

“The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism – ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power.” Franklin D. Roosevelt
