Stimulus Foes Seek Their Share

So much for a principled opposition: More than a dozen Republican lawmakers sent private letters to federal government agencies seeking stimulus money for pork projects even as they publicly criticized the stimulus. Missouri Senator Kip Bond, for example, sought more than $50 million for two projects in his state. “I strongly opposed the stimulus, but the only thing that could make it worse would be if none of it returned to the taxpayers of Missouri,” Bond said. Other guilty members include Rep. Joe “You Lie” Wilson, Senator Robert Bennett of Utah, and Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander.

Who paid for this?

If you drive along I-35 in Wyoming, Minnesota, you might see a billboard with a picture of George W. Bush and the words, “Miss Me Yet?”

No one seems to know who paid to put up the billboard, but guesses range from some person or group who isn’t thrilled by President Barack Obama’s performance so far, to it being a more ironic message from those who didn’t think too much of Bush and want to remind voters about him.

Justice Clinton?

Last week, ABC News reported: “Lawyers for President Obama have been working behind the scenes to prepare for the possibility of one, and maybe two Supreme Court vacancies this spring. Court watchers believe two of the more liberal members of the court, Justices John Paul Stevens and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, could decide to step aside for reasons of age and health. That would give the president his second and third chance to shape his legacy on the Supreme Court.”

If this became a reality, I would accept that President Obama had been a successful president even if he didn’t get heath care reformed!  Of course, with his other nomination I would prefer seeing someone younger.
