Happy New Year!
He watch the ball fall in time square on the TV. the new year had arrived.
Slowly he went to the window and peer into the darkness outside.
It was as it always was, there was light from the lone street light halfway down the street.
Some houses still had Christmas lights shining along roof tops and there was one of those air fill Santa Clauses standing in the freezing cold the other side of the window.
The only light within was from the TV. and the yapping redhead with her version of sarcastic humor trying to entertain the views. Otherwise the house was almost as dark as the outside.
He stood staring into the darkness, all he saw was the darkness perhaps he was looking for another light.
One that was in the future that was to be make happen with a new year.
But all he could see was more of the same darkness and the same few lights that had been there in the pass year.
There was another darkness that even the street light could not touch.
This darkness surrounded him, flowed within him and nothing he saw looking out the window.
seemed to make this darkness lighten up, there was nothing he could see just outside of his house.
That made this darkness to go away or seem not so dark.
His thought were interrupted momentarily with the sound of his wife’s hacking cough from the bedroom.
He turned and looked pass the living room and toward the bedroom door.
She had went to bed a few hours ago saying she was too sleepy to stay awake to greet the new year.
He knew that she too saw no real point in the changing of the year, perhaps it was not seeing any more hope in the new year then in the past year.
Another year of fighting to stay afloat in the drowning flow of the world.
But then that was the driving force, stay afloat for another year to see if the following new year had hope in the darkness.
He finally turned back to the TV. watched the cheering crowd and finally accepting that there was one thing that would bring light to one of the dark nesses he saw. The raising sun the following morning.
He walked to the TV. and shut it off, the bedroom would be dark too but its darkness would have purpose.
To sleep, warm underneath a couple of layers of covers.
A new day and a new year perhaps to fight the other darkness or simple to endure it.

Sad, but good! I saw what the words said. To me, that’s the sign of a good story!
Thank you, I use to have as a signature on my e-mails and the like: “Let me paint a picture for you!”.
Writing is a form of art as much as painting:
The words are the colors.
The paragraph are the bush strokes.
And the reader’s mind is the canvas.
Good writing is more feeling the word rather then reading them.
At one time I knew these truths, sadly lately I think I have forgotten them.

Most certainly! Sadly looking to make money off of writing seems to only come at times like these.
When the help wanted ads read more like a listing of a professional office building then the things I have experience with.
And then the venues that are open are not ones I fit well into when it comes to writing.
What I called a “parlor trick” of mine, name a subject and I will write a story about it.
I have not played in some time, I had been told I was good at it and the story read well.
But please if you know or have an idea let me know?
