August 13 is designated International Lefthanders Day. As its name suggests, it is meant to promote awareness of the inconveniences facing left-handed in a predominantly right-handed world. It celebrates their uniqueness and difference, who are from seven to ten percent of the world’s population.
President Obama is left-handed, along with these past presidents: James Garfield, Herbert Hoover, Harry Truman, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, and Bill Clinton. Albert Einstein was left-handed.
You may purchase left-handed scissors, golf clubs, guitars, trumpets, watches, computer mouse, desks, archery bows, knives, guns, ball mitts… What else?
People who are left handed use their right brain, which appears to help in geometry, and related subjects. There also appears to be a connection between lefthandedness and intelligence. If this is true, don’t fail to notice that of the last six presidents only one wasn’t left-handed. And not many people ever accused that one of being intelligent.
Who here is left-handed?
fnord
I had no idea there was sooo much information available about left-handers! They must truly be intelligent, and well organized! For a group representing seven to ten percent of the world’s population, they get it done!

Thank you!
Left handed hammers are popular in OZ. 🙂
Lefties are commies and instruments of the devil. A nun told me that in the third grade, so it’s gotta be true, right?
Jammer, I’m sure she was thinking about the Latin for left handed; sinistra is the word as I recall it from high school; or was that sinister? I just can’t seem to recall the proper ending for the noun in the objective case (I believe it is a fifth declension noun).
I remember at the time holding in a chuckle (think pulled sideburns 🙂 ). While I had a healthy respect for religion, her left hand association, even then, struck me as odd. And I believe she even used to term you described, although I can’t remember it.
A very interesting article about Cheney: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32398177/ns/politics-washington_post/
Oh no! Cheney lost control of his bush! Thank goodness! Can you even imagine how big the troubles if bush the lesser hadn’t had some sort of conscience?
From jammer’s link:
“In the second term, he felt Bush was moving away from him,” said a participant in the recent gathering, describing Cheney’s reply. “He said Bush was shackled by the public reaction and the criticism he took. Bush was more malleable to that. The implication was that Bush had gone soft on him, or rather Bush had hardened against Cheney’s advice. He’d showed an independence that Cheney didn’t see coming. It was clear that Cheney’s doctrine was cast-iron strength at all times — never apologize, never explain — and Bush moved toward the conciliatory.”
Here’s how pundits are receiving news of the Cheney tell-all:
* Now We’ll Get the Full Scoop, says Annie Laurie at Balloon Juice. “I know a lot of us DFHs feared that the horrors of the Cheney Regency would never receive a public airing, if only for fear of the War Crimes Tribunal, but perhaps vanity will achieve what mere human decency and the rule of law never could I look forward to further revelations with interest, and popcorn.”
* Proof of Cheney’s Hubris, says Alex Massie at the Spectator (UK). “It’s almost as if the Vice-President was horrified to discover that the President had ideas of his own.”
* All He Cares About is Libby, says BooMan of Booman Tribune. ” His loyal soldier was left on the battlefield without the right to a law license he could use to enrich himself in his post-government years…Strange what Cheney chooses to feel guilty about. Isn’t it?”
* Bush Is Starting to Look Good, says The Cajun Boy at Gawker. “Cheney’s post-presidency attacks on him are enough to make even the most dedicated Bush-hater feel sorry for him, even if only just a bit.”
* Whatever Happened to Cheney’s Loyalty? says James Joyner at Outside the Beltway. “Unless one resigns in protest, one owes a certainly loyalty to those whom one serves.”

Remember this song? Talk about teen angst:
Never heard the song. Can’t stand David Caruso.
Guess I just don’t measure up for the in-crowd.
😉
Can’t stand david either. Can’t believe you never heard that song. It’s almost an anthem.
If it’s an 80’s song, I have an excuse. I had 4 kids in that decade (late March 80 to October 89). I was busy. As soon as one was out of diapers, another came along, at least with the first three. I honestly don’t remember much from the 80’s and truly suck at 80’s Trivial Pursuit. Now the Baby Boomers edition is a completely different story. LOL
There was another copy on you tube, but not a very good one.
More sunglasses. I think Danny Johnson (not the guitar hero record breaker) played lead, but I’m not sure:
I think Annie Laurie has hit on a valid point about vanity.
In my opinion, Cheney is desperately wanting to be remembered as a patriot that saved America – even if he nearly destroyed the Constitution doing it.
What does it say in the Bible? – Pride goeth before the fall?
Lefties are commies and instruments of the devil.
Arrr my secret is out, yes I am a commie and an instrument of the devil!
Wow yesterday was my birthday and today is international Left hander’s day!
Will the blessing ever stop? Try as they might every year in Elementary school they could not break me.
I had to endure about a month and a half every year of having my hand rapped with a ruler to try to get me to write Right handed. Finally they had to concede that I could not and they let me write left handed.
Happy birthday one day late! If I had known I would have baked you a cake. Did you do something special to celebrate? Something you should share — or are you just gonna smile a lot and make us wonder? 🙂
Left handed, huh.
It’s good that we’re beyond those days when teachers tried to force everyone to write with the right hand! We are beyond that, aren’t we?
According to Grover Norquist it is all your fault! He was asked if he had seen any actions done by the protesters at the town hall meetings he thought was over the line? First he said every video he had seen the protesters were orderly and polite. Then he said those that are disruptive and rude were Liberals posing as Conservatives to make the Conservatives look bad!
Damn, they were good actors! Hollywood should look them up.
Fnord its getting so bad that next they will be claiming it was not them who said it. It was a space alien doppelganger!
God thinking about all those years of getting my hand beaten for being left handed. Got me thinking of all the other things that caused me to hate school and see it as punishment. I had a 1st grade teacher who gave me a spanking for missing two words out of ten. I was needing to pee and told her so but she still throw me over her lap and started hitting me…. Yes I did! OMG I was only thinking I was getting hit before that…But you know what? She deserved to be peed on!
What is it about 2nd grade teachers that seems to make them sadistic?
I had a speech teacher who repeatedly hit me in the head with a ink pen till I finally pronounced the word carousel. Then the following year she was my 3rd grade teacher, imagine that horror!
Fourth through sixth the teachers were not that bad though because I am short sighted I was thought to be boarder line R.E. But there was a boy who made every recess a living hell for me.
Jr. High was so dreaded, I tried everyday to think of some reason not to go. All the teachers seem to just hate the kids. There were several guys who made each day a misery and then there was the day a science teacher assigned another student to tutor me before I had missed a couple of days. The student was right in the middle of explaining something to me. When he suddenly walked off and I turned to see where he was going. The teacher walked back in the room and ordered us both out into the hallway. He stationed the other student outside the book room and took me in. He ordered me to bend over a chair and then beat me with a wooden paddle. He then took me back to the hallway and ask the other student if he was able to hear my beating? If not he would take me back and beat me some more! The student asked him why he had beaten me? When told that the teacher saw I was not paying attention, the student told him that he had forgotten to grab a pencil and was not talking to me when the teacher had walked in.
No I am sorry, only a “Oh” and he ordered us both back to the class room.
A foot note to the above, years later I told my dad about it. He asked why I had not said anything to him back then? I said that it would have been between the teacher and me, who would he have believed?
He told me that made him feel bad that I would have thought he would have sided with the teacher.
So if I wanted to go back to Allison and throw the teacher across a desk and beat his butt. Dad would bail me out and hire a lawyer!
tosmart – Happy Birthday to you!!
Isn’t it amazing that Grover Norquist at firstr could not find any rude and disruptive protesters but then on second look, he knows it was Liberals pretending to be Conservatives.
Man, that guy is a genius – to think, he knows what a person’s politics is just by looking them?
Oh and let’s not think about these protesters who have appeared on the MSNBC shows proudly telling why they are protesting and one man even had a loaded gun !
Yeah, those evil Liberals sure know how to make those Angelic Conservatives look bad.
The daily show’s latest has Jeff Sharlett, who wrote the book, The Family, about C street. Short, but fascinating.

Les Paul, the supreme iconic symbol of the electric guitar, passed away today. What an awesome man and musician. He was 94 years young. Rest in peace dude.
Echoing the b-day wishes, tosmart!
My youngest is left-handed. I’ve heard it said that left-handers come from mothers who were under stress during conception and pregnancy. How did the know? 🙂
Oh, and my youngest uses the mouse as a right-hander. I told her I could switch the buttons, but she said it didn’t bother her. That’s how she started using it at a young age an adjusted to it quickly. Of course, I can’t read her writing to save my soul. But then I can’t read mine, either.
Dear friends,
As you may know, right-wing talk show hosts have been bringing
race-based fear mongering into the mainstream, but FOX’s Glenn Beck
just took it to another level. On Tuesday, Beck said:
“This president has exposed himself as a guy over and
over and over again who has a deep-seated hatred for
white people… this guy is, I believe, a racist.”
It’s part of a larger argument Beck has been making: that President
Obama wants to serve the needs of Black communities at White people’s
expense. This kind of talk stirs up fear, hate, and it can lead to
violence.
I’ve joined ColorOfChange.org’s effort to stop Glenn Beck.
ColorOfChange is already putting calls into Beck’s advertisers, asking
them if they want to be associated with this kind of racist hate and
fear-mongering. When the advertisers see that tens of thousands of us
are behind that question, I believe they’ll move their advertising
dollars elsewhere, and his show and platform will be history.
Will you take a stand and be counted, and invite your friends and
family to do the same? It takes just a moment:

Glenn Beck is appealing to the worst in America. Of course, some
Americans refuse to accept the fact that our president is Black or the
idea that he could truly serve all Americans. But the only way these
views fade away is if they’re not reinforced by mainstream society.
Instead, folks like Glenn Beck, Lou Dobbs, and Rush Limbaugh are
exploiting racism and race-based fear to bump their ratings, stirring
up racial discord in the process.
The dangers of these tactics are real. We saw the same dynamic during
the presidential race: By the end, the McCain/Palin campaign was
unable to control the violent energy whipped up by their race-baiting.
It resulted in an unprecedented number of threats on Obama’s life, a
rise in the number of hate groups, and an increase in the number of
threats and crimes against immigrants and Black people.
FOX has a horrible track record on pushing racist propaganda, but
Glenn Beck appears to be taking the network to an even lower standard.
He’s trying to divide and distract America when we should be coming
together and talking about issues that really matter–like health care
and the economy.
The good news is that we have the power to stop this. All major media
is funded by advertising. And advertisers care more than anything
what consumers think. If we want to change what’s happening and put an
end to folks like Glenn Beck having a platform, we can do it.
It’s up to us, and it can start now. Please join me:

Thanks.
Oh good grief I have been wondering why I had not seen Joe Williams posting lately!
Last I hear, he and Sam Brownback were meeting for drinks! We may know if it is Joe if a second body shows up wearing a Nun’s habit and a barb wire jock strap.
Body Found in Arkansas River
County Sheriff Department reports finding a man’s body in the Arkansas River river just Southwest Blvd K42 Bridge. The man’s name will not be released until his family has been notified. The victim apparently drowned after consuming an excessive amount of alcohol. He was wearing black fishnet stockings, a red garter belt with matching bra, and an Obama T-shirt. The deputy removed the Obama T-shirt to spare his family any unnecessary embarrassment.
Sounds like my ex, but I doubt he’d be wearing an Obama T-shirt.
I can’t understand why that T-shirt would be an embarrassment to the family. Why not the fishnet stockings and red garter belt and matching bra? Some people have a problem with priorities. Then again, my ex’s family are staunch Republicans.
Thanks, tosmart. A laugh to end the day. Who could ask for more? 🙂
I stole it from the other blog, AW posted it.
I just added the part about Joe and Brownback.
Les Paul added so much to all taste of music, not to mention the best guitar I even had a chance to play. A 68 L.P. Studio Gold top, if I won the lottery I would not have a mansion but that guitar would be in what ever house I did own. $3,800.00 and worth it!
Well I am hearing that the admendment that the Kill Granny is based on has been removed. It was going to cost 2.7 million to in act over ten years. But to the best of me I will never know how it was so twisted and so believed!
To be honest, to me it is the surest sign that the message is failing. I mean it was so simple to disprove. yet it was still flowing around and still being believed. I guess it can be summed up with you just can not fix stupid.
Night all
A couple of things, first thank you all for the B-day wishes.
Second, truly a small world went to a going away B BQ for my daughter-in-law and the twin angels she has brought into my life. Toward the end one of the in-laws is a freshmen this year and will be going to West High.
I mentioned to her I am class of 76 and suddenly that started a “OMG you went to West!”. From my son’s mother-in-law she was class of 78 and her brother is class of 72.
She started rattling off names that I knew and the year book came out! She looked up my senior picture and said she remembered me! Even remembered a little bike trip a few of us took down a hallway the last day (Hum….) Then she commented, were you kind of a bad guy then? Wow I guess I never thought of myself in that light.
