  1. I am not working today. Nothing more serious than cooking dinner tonight for my wife and son.

Can I get an amen for not working, brothers and sisters?

  2. I am the resident bum on this site and I approve of days off. I simply never work. 🙂

I did work for many years. I actually climbed that corporate ladder and spent many long days working, achieved a level of success higher than I probably should have been able to reach since I’m an uneducated fool.

But I found my calling! I am the best bum, an expert lounger!

Today is the day I am going to meet a good friend for lunch and catch up on all the ‘news’. Seems like the past few months have been hectic for both of us and we never found the time to get together. We have had family events and everyday life is becoming more and more busy.

This friend and I met about 12 years ago and simply hit it off. We really enjoy each other’s company and can have some meaningful conversations. This friend was one of my strongest supporters during my cancer journey.

Did I also mention that my friend is a staunch Republican and a devout pro-life Catholic?

When we discuss politics or religion, we each make it a rule to not judge and to listen with an open mind. We are both set in our ways but I think we have both learned that labels are just that – labels. Each side can present its ideas without all the hate.

    What a concept, huh?

LOL I have been hearing repeated knocking for the last thirty minutes. Ever so often I get up and look out the door. walk the house and become even more puzzled? It just now occurred to me, the stand fan that is setting behind me is on swivel which it is generally set to stay in one place. But now it is swinging enough to lift one side of a box lid on the other side of the room… bump…bump… bump! Haunted mind:>

  5. What do you think this graph says about our society?

More people are shopping than involved with education! Look how much time we spend eating. Hmmmmm….

It’s an interactive graph so click the categories to see the changes for the various groups polled.

How Different Groups Spend Their Day
The American Time Use Survey asks thousands of American residents to recall every minute of a day. Here is how people over age 15 spent their time in 2008.

  6. I’m spluttering, I’m speechless, I’m amazed…

    Look here —

I was looking for images for The Public Square and look what I ran across!!!

  7. Oma,

In your post about the Crowley/Gates controversy, you said these words:

“…that while there are times when you have the legal justification to do something, sometimes it isn’t the right thing to do.”

On the news tonight there was a report where those words, once again, apply.

I don’t know where this happened but a woman was with a group of 25 from a church youth group going to a concert, they stopped to eat at a Burger King. The woman was carrying her 6-month-old infant who had bare feet. She was told she would have to order to go as the child couldn’t stay inside without shoes. Of course, they pointed to the door where it was posted, “No shirt, no shoes, no service.” The woman went to the vehicle and put socks on the infant. No go! said the management — SHOES. The woman explained the baby owned no shoes, couldn’t walk. Many in her group had ordered, sat down… Anyway, everyone finished as quickly as possible and left as Burger King said they would call the authorities if the infant wasn’t taken out of the restaurant or complied with the ‘rules.’

This made the news and when the Mom was interviewed she said it is quite the talk of Facebook. It seems no one is thinking highly of Burger King for this following of the ‘rules.’ Their lack of common sense, their lack of knowing what was the right thing to do will get them a bunch of negative advertising. Sometimes you can’t buy the kind of advertising that can be spread by word of mouth!

I think I’ll drive past Burger King next time I think of buying a fast food burger.
