GUNS CAN SAVE OUR ECONOMY –- by William A. Collins

monkey_glockBusiness booms,

And all have fun;

When everybody’s

Got a gun.

  Now that America’s banking, real estate, stock market, insurance and automobile bubbles have all burst, what’s a hard-working, God-fearing citizen supposed to do for a job? Can you believe that even the casino industry is laying off? Fortunately alcohol is still stable, but prostitution futures have tanked. Curses, if the sin market is sinking, we’re in more trouble than we thought.

  But one industry has heroically come to our rescue – yes, guns. Firearm sales are through the roof. Gun makers are adding shifts and gun stores are adding clerks. They’re sparking the whole economy. Researchers have identified several reasons: Barack Obama, the recession, and self-defense.

It’s not that they fear Mr. Obama will come after them physically. Rather they see him as a strident gun control zealot who will soon make gun sales illegal. Thus we had better buy now. The recession in turn provokes fears of unemployed armed mobs roving the streets looking for any wealth they can grab. If you happen to have some, you’d better be ready to mount a show of force in response. And nowadays, it’s also critical to be armed and ready when screwballs at Columbine, Virginia Tech, Binghamton and North Carolina show up and start shooting. Who let those nuts have guns anyway? But since they do, we’d better too.

Thus you’ll be pleased to learn that Connecticut has just taken a solid step to end this insanity. Thanks to its valiant legislature, it is now illegal to hand a machine gun to anyone under age 16. Seems last year an eight-year-old at a local range got hold of an Uzi, lost control of it, and shot his head off. Brave pols thought that was wrong and responded fast. Continue reading

Hie Away

“I like to write songs that make you feel different from the way you felt before you started listening,”- Shawn Phillips

  I have actually heard of critic’s reviews about Shawn where they complained that he used “The entire English language.” WHAT? How shallow have we become as consumers? The remarks about using the entire language reminded me of the scene in ‘Amadeus’ where some aristocrat is complaining that Mozart’s new composition was awful because “there were just too many notes!” Boy would he ever hate this cut, Hie Away. I was at one of his shows (in Tulsa I think?), where Shawn said something like: “Show me an artist who plays for the art of it, he’ll be the next guy without a major label.”

 For those of us who lose at scrabble; Hie -Pronunciation:\ˈhī\ -Function: verb -Inflected Form(s):hied; hy·ing or hie·ing -Etymology:Middle English, from Old English hīgian to strive, hasten. Date:12th century -intransitive verb: to go quickly : hasten -transitive verb: to cause (oneself) to go quickly.

Hie Away

 Tongues are rattling and multiprattling, the thanatoid elite
That call the noisome, remorseless horsemen, we pray they into sleep
For when they’re riding there is no hiding your face

Instant ambrose for distant decades, the same must speed relief
For tolls too briefly the sounds of mercy
I shall not hie to grief
In fear we ponder the use of thunder for peace

Moving rages divide the phases converging toward belief
That’s being proven in all its union, there is no more retreat
And blind delusions maintain illusions too deep

Now flows the hour of cringe and cower, the strong become the weak
Negate your power and all to flower,
In pain we all are meek
In light beholden the ages golden we seek

~~~~~~~~~~
Just one reason I like Shawn is exactly that attitude of doing his own thing. Rebel hippie musicians just have a soft spot in my heart. I could carry on for a while with rebelious quotes from Shawn, but I risk the chance of carrying on so long you lose interst. So instead of quelling your interest, let me try to spike it by presenting something completely different than PrariePops is used to me posting by SP.
  I’ve always shared Shawn’s more mellow/acoustic numbers in the past, if you enjoyed those, check out this short clip of him at home practicing acoustic guitar. Continue reading
“The Decider” Has Determined Obama’s Policies Lacking
In a speech in Erie, Pennsylvania, former president George W. Bush was critical of a number of decisions and approachs adopted by Obama.
* Waterboarding helped get information and protected American lives
*Closing the Guantanamo Bay detention center is a bad idea
*Government should stay out of healthcare
*”You can spend your money better than the government can spend your money.”
I was starting to have my doubts about Obama, so thanks George for straightening me out.  Read the entire Washington Post article.
Book Club for Progressives
HLP of the BTSNBN has always wanted to start a book club for guys.  My dear spouse belongs to a book club that keeps growing every month.  They meet once a month in a different members’ house.  They talk, drink wine, laugh, drink more wine, laugh some more, and seem to have a good time.
I seriously considered taking the Hank up on his scheme, but I doubt that I could stomach most of his guests.
Are there male bloggers here, who live close enough to ICT, who’d like to start a book club?
Let me know.  I will see what I can do about this good idea that was accidentally conceived by a con (sorta like his son; except that good idea was a serious error).
gopcliffWouldn’t you think every American would want to help? Well, think again, the Party of No who led, and pushed, the country off this cliff has now washed their hands of any responsibility. They’re still blaming the Clinton Administration, while justifying and excusing the Bush 43 Administration. Anyone who can find excuses and justifications for that train wreck shouldn’t be part of any solution anyway!
So, what’s on your mind today? This is the thread you decide what we talk about. Wanna just play and have fun? This is the thread for that too!
