parentsHappy Mother’s Day.

To those Dads, Grandparents and others who also make great mothers, thank you — here’s to you too!  Biology is not what makes someone a mother.

Being a mother is one of the highest salaried jobs… since the payment is pure love.

  1. The annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner was held last night. The first YouTube productions are available. I read that President Obama even had some fun with the claims that his supporters treat him with too much reverence, sometimes called “God-like devotion.”

“I believe that my next 100 days will be so successful I will be able to complete them in 72 days,” Obama said. “And on the 73rd day, I’m going to rest.”

    Here’s some of President Obama’s stand-up routine:

Comedian Wanda Sykes included this gem — “Palin was scheduled to attend the dinner, but then “pulled out at the last minute.”

“Somebody should tell her that’s not really how you practice abstinence.”

    Part of Wanda Sykes performance:

  2. I loved it. Finally a president who can tell the jokes instead of being one.

“In the next 100 days I will strongly consider losing my cool.” -Barry O.

This is such a pleasure to see.. what a pleasant way to start the morning….

Lots of smart and connected folk here.

Anybody know where I can get empty 55 gallon plastic drums?

This is a little idea I’ve been toying with.

My basement and my brother’s basement take water when it rains a lot.

It occurs to me that all the water that hits the roof goes down the downspouts and so right along the foundation. If that water could be captured in downspout barrels, it could be used for watering or otherwise more evenly distributed so as to NOT have it around the basement of the house. Much cheaper also than otherwise waterproofing the basements.

My little brother rather liked the idea and is impatient for me to build it. SO I just need to lay hands to some 55 gallon drums.

    • tosmarttobegop

Fnord’s suggestion would be the easier route to go. And what she said it true as many places that get things in though large drums. Do have things in them that is bad.

In the end the difference between a 55 gallon drum and a 33 gallon trash can is one is bought at any store and the other has to be found and cleaned out. That and 22 gallons.

    • I had three behind my house, apparently someone else wanted them, as they dissapeared a few months ago.

  5. I don’t know where drums are available. Many products packaged in drums fall into the ‘drum tracking’ requirements because they contained products that might be pollutants. They can’t end up in dumps and aren’t disposed of often because of the lifelong responsibility of the original owner.

How about what would usually be thought of as trash cans?

  6. Here’s some new poll results from Gallup.

OPEN LEFT has done a series on data they have collected to include topics such as:

    Electorate Becoming Increasingly LGBT

The Future Electorate: Race and Ethnicity

The Future of the Electorate: Religion

All very interesting! None bodes well for the Republican Party. From the link below, you can click on the other studies.

Republicans are so busy trying to rebrand themselves that they don’t realize they have the same old, rich, white guys out front delivering the message?

Republicans have lost alot of ground with every group BUT the white Southern males. Even the rich, at some point, will read the handwriting on the wall and will go where they know their best bet is – and that is with the party in power.

  8. lilacluvr

I forgot one group the Republicans have, and will probably never get rid of, are the White Evangelical Christians.

But even with them, if it comes down to money or their so-called morals – my bet is on money.

  9. We picked up another blogroll listing here

    Another place I’ve commented occasionally.
Feel free to check our friend out.

  10. So cheney is shooting his mouth off again! The vice president no one ever heard from, only caught glimpses of his scowling face, suddenly can’t shut up. I love it! With so many excellent ambassadors for the Democratic Party among vocal Republicans the world can’t get any better! 😉 Anyone wondering why the Republican Party numbers are shrinking?

“Cheney backs Limbaugh over Powell on GOP future

Asked about recent verbal broadsides between Limbaugh and Powell, Cheney said, “If I had to choose in terms of being a Republican, I’d go with Rush Limbaugh. My take on it was Colin had already left the party. I didn’t know he was still a Republican.”

TC has sent a long post for this thread. It is a cut and paste from the other blog. It features one of the more challenged haters there and this said person makes a fool of himself. I am thinking that I would prefer to read such stuff over there, rather than here. I will leave the approval decision up to you.

Besides we have our own resident gunnut/con back. Mike W. was posting on a thread of SEKan’s.

Just to let everyone else know. I had banned mike w. because I don’t see the up-side of arguing with gun nuts. I don’t fear his arguments or his flat lined brain death, people like him just bore the crap out of me. However, the threads he was posting on got record views. So it came down to, do I go for the views and sell my soul in the process, or what?

I spoke with fnord and elected to “unban” him. He blogs from two different computers, one I am guessing is work, and one from home.

I am starting to think that blogging is a great deal like U.S. talk radio and that people show up to watch the car wrecks.

Truthfully, I find the whole deal very depressing.

  12. frigginloon

Hey there Iggy…I am glad you spotted him (Mike W), I sent out an alert on the above post. WTF…please don’t send him anywhere near me…we have a total gun ban in Friggin loon Land thank you very much . Plus I don’t think he has a sense of humor which means I’m screwed! But you are dead right Iggy….let them come. I had one on my site a few months back….all the Loons ganged up on him and now he plays nice…well nicer! It is a case of letting them know whose boss. Anyways worse case scenario, Fnord can throw that can of whole roast chicken at him 🙂 . It looks nice and slimy! Psst don’t tell him where I live…friggin bully with a gun.

  13. iggydonnelly

Thanks for sharing. Off to bed for me.

  14. Thunderchild

    Never mind.

I don’t want to be the arbiter of what is and is not worthy of posting and I SURE don’t want to be the object of it or source of conflict over it. I withdraw the submission.

  15. It’s a good decision, Thunderchild.

Reading about that poster isn’t fun, funny, enlightening, or worthwhile. There’s nothing interesting or redeeming in what he posts. It isn’t surprising that he posts silliness or that he posts things easily refuted — he always has and does it in the most boring and hateful ways!

We left that blog because we want to discuss, share, learn, enjoy, laugh, and be around people who understand that everyone should be treated with dignity. Diversity is good! Expressing opinions, convictions and thoughts in a respectful way will gain respect — not necessarily agreement, but respect. Agreement isn’t a requirement, but respect is!

  16. iggydonnelly

Please come back TC. I won’t complain if you leave BL20 at the other place.

  17. iggydonnelly

I think that there is a difference between the “free market of ideas” and the “free market of hatred and bigotry”. I think that difference is easily perceived.

  18. It’s a conundrum for me!

We talk quite a bit about what we want our blog to be. We talked before Iggy made it, and we continue to discuss it. If anyone expects a bunch of damn evil liberals to come to any kind of agreement, you’re gonna have a long wait! We’re even worse! We are populists and progressives who see so many sides to every question and issue, we make ourselves dizzy from turning things over in our heads. We take ideas out and handle them for awhile, turn them over to make sure we have a ‘feel’ for all the parts. If and when we come to a conclusion of how we feel individually, then we must consider all the angles of how it might affect someone else. You can see it is quite a process. 😉

Usually the only thing we agree on is that we like who we are together, when all our parts are clicking and interacting. We like to share what we find interesting and hear what others think about it. So we’re just not gonna worry about what someone else wants in a blog. They’ll either be comfortable or miserable here with this bunch of Prairie P & P’s.

Where we draw the line (if we draw one) is that if you are comfortable, sit down and join in, give us your thoughts to turn inside out in our search of ideas. If you feel miserable, why in the world would you stay?
