  1. Did you think the leadership of the Catholic Church could not possibly stoop any lower than the decades-long conspiracy to protect priests who raped and molested children? Oh, ye of little faith:

Pressed to come up with hundreds of millions of dollars to settle clergy sex abuse lawsuits, Cardinal Roger M. Mahony turned to one group of Catholics whose faith could not be shaken: the dead.

Under his leadership in 2007, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles quietly appropriated $115 million from a cemetery maintenance fund and used it to help pay a landmark settlement with molestation victims.

“Quietly appropriated” is apparently fancy talk for “stole.”

  2. The Tea Partier’s say we need the 2nd Ammendment (and it was indeed written into the Constitution) to protect ourselves from government tyranny, and for the possible over throw of a government hostile to individual freedoms.

    NOW ONTO THE FACTS:

Did Reagan support an assault-weapons ban? “A majority of Americans agree with” a ban on assault weapons. “And by the way, so did Ronald Reagan.” – http://www.politifact.com/georgia/statements/2013/feb/05/barack-obama/did-reagan-support-assault-weapons-ban/

The Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986 – “Reagan signed the Firearm Owners Protection Act into law in 1986, which “banned ownership of any fully automatic rifles that were not already registered on the day the law was signed.” – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firearm_Owners_Protection_Act

    • Hey – St. Ronnie was also a union leader that used collective bargaining to get health care benefits for his fellow actors….

NOW you tell me St. Ronnie was also for a ban on assault weapons?

God – this must mean ST. Ronnie was a….dare I say it?……one of those Commie Liberals?

  3. I was nodding in agreement with this blog post by the time I finished the headline, but the very last sentence is one you don’t want to miss! :-) We all know what it means, but this blogger is a genius in his use of the now familiar phrase!

NOW WE FINALLY KNOW WHO’S DELIVERING THE REAL GOP RESPONSE TO THE STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

The real Republican response to the State of the Union address is being given, or at least planned, by a man who could probably beat Rubio or Paul handily in the 2016 GOP primaries if he ran. Media, if you want to know what the Republican Party really thinks — about guns and about everything to do with the president, his speech, and American politics in general — just cut off the live feed of the two senators, train a camera on Ted Nugent and let him talk.

    http://nomoremister.blogspot.com/2013/02/now-we-finally-know-whos-delivering.html
    (you’ll enjoy the comments too)

    • Between Ted Nugent – Rush Limbaugh – Tony Perkins and Bryan Fischer – Pat Robertson – Bill O’Reilly – Ann Coulter – Sarah Palin – Sean Hannity – and many other Teapublicans and Fundies – we all know what the true feelings are of the current Grand Old Party.

Just let these fools talk……and as loudly and as often as they wish to talk……

IIRC – Rush Limbaugh was the main factor as to why SAndra Fluke became such a household name……and we all saw what happened to Limbaugh’s sponsors – didn’t we?

Kinda like when the Susan Komen Group thought they could get that one Fundy into their leadership without anyone noticiing…..

WOMEN are not that stupid – much to the dismay of these current GOP males…

      • I left off one thing – I believe the first time WOMEN really woke up to what was happening in the political scene was when McCain and the GOP boys thought they could put up any woman -Sarah Palin – and the rest of the sheeple women would fall in line to vote for a woman on the ticket.

The ‘boys’ grossly underestimated the WOMEN in 2008 and they continue to do so – at their own peril.

I firmly believe that Sarah Palin cost McCain alot of votes in 2008 – and they were mostly from the womens vote..

      • I think a lot of women have been paying attention quietly, but for sure were a bit less quiet with regard to a Palin being even close to representing our gender, that was repulsive to most women.

I agree completely. Republicans don’t value women as indiviudals and seem to think one is interchangeable with the next — you must be male to be of any worth beyond a toy and a baby factory to republicans. They really did seem to think ALL women would fall in line and vote for their woman candidate. I’m not sure most of them learned any lessons from that Palin experience!

  4. And on a lighter note…

Happy Mardi Gras. Laissez les bons temps rouler. I hope the good times roll for you and yours.

If I still lived in Southeast Texas, this would be a big day. They close the schools for parades and Krewe parties.

I miss King Cake most of all. Oh yeah, and this:

    “Hey lady, show me your….”

    • I just returned home from taking granddaughter to school. We passed by a church sign about the Ash Wednesday service tomorrow…

      Damn…..Half of February is gone – already….

Where is the time going – and why is gettting there so fast?

  5. What could possibly go wrong? I tend to think this isn’t as much a “new” bubble as a continuance of one that was never addressed or ended properly.

Your New Landlord Works on Wall Street
Hedge funds are snatching up rental homes at an alarming rate and a new bubble may be forming

    • When Teapublicans demonize federal spending for Section 8 Housing – I wonder how many of these folks actually know there are corporations (they’re people too – remember?) are dependent on that federal money for their corporate profits?

Just take a look around town at these apartment complexes – how many are corporate-owned?

      • This is not the same issue – but have you noticed the numerous mega churches who are currently building?

I thought these were the same folks that predicted doom and gloom because the black man in the White House was going to bankrupt us all?

Hmmm…..I wonder where these churches got their money to build all these fancy – and huge – buildings?

      • Also think about this: these mega churches are sitting on prime real estate – and paying no taxes…

Hmmmm…who has to pay more to make up for these leeches?

It’s time to tax the churches – at least on their real estate – and profits on their non-church businesses.

  6. Republicans still expect to win at the national level without women’s votes. They aren’t paying attention.

Senate Passes Violence Against Women Act, With No Help From 22 Republican Male Senators

Senators who voted against the bill included Republicans John Barrasso (Wyo.), Roy Blunt (Mo.), John Boozman (Ark.), Tom Coburn (Okla.), John Cornyn (Texas), Ted Cruz (Texas), Mike Enzi (Wyo.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Chuck Grassley (Iowa), Orrin Hatch (Utah), James Inhofe (Okla.), Mike Johanns (Neb.), Ron Johnson (Wisc.), Mike Lee (Utah), Mitch McConnell (Ky.), Rand Paul (Ky.), Jim Risch (Idaho), Pat Roberts (Kansas), Marco Rubio (Fla.), Jeff Sessions (Ala.), Jeff Thune (N.D.) and Tim Scott (S.C.).

    • Republicans have words (that are empty). And then they have actions that verify their words can’t be trusted, don’t mean a thing.

  7. fnord, this is for you (and any other person with interest in young people making good choices): http://www.kansascity.com/2013/02/12/4062570/kus-ben-mclemore-spreads-his-wings.html

  8. I honestly thought Rubio would give a positive speech — one that gave some republican ideas rather than only criticizing President Obama. But I was disappointed again. Nothing but HELL NO.

It’s a done deal for that whole party of nothing but negativism. The majority of Americans are positive people who know we don’t need any more bitching, whining and blaming.

    • The republicans remind me of people who are unbalanced and can’t take responsibility for anything so instead live in their very own made-up fairy tales where they are always victims. The world against poor, poor republicans who are just victims of all that isn’t rainbows and unicorns.

      • I did not watch the president’s speech tonight – but I did return home in time to watch Marco Rubio’s speech..

What was with that reaching for the water bottle about?

Don’t you think more people will be talking (laughing) about Rubio’s mannerisms – that wiping away the sweat off his sideburns and rubbing his chin several times – and then to top it off with that pained look on his face as he was trying to reach for the water bottle while not taking his eyes off the teleprompter and then drinking the water kinda half-way cock-eyed in order to keep his eyes on the teleprompter.

Can you imagine the outrage and/or ridicule Obama would have received if this had been him doing this in his speech?

BTW – isn’t not taking your your eyes off the teleprompter a sign of NEEDING the teleprompter?

NOW what was that I kept hearing from Republcans about how Obama NEEDS a teleprompter and their brilliant folks don’t?

Yeah – I almost felt sorry for Rubio – A-L-M-O-S-T……but, seriously, I did not feel one drop of pity for this guy because he was spewing nothing but that Tea Party hatred of Obama – so why bother listening to his words?

Actually, I’m glad he flubbed so badly on delivering his hate-filled speech. I suspect all the focus will be on his delivery and not what was actually said.

What was I saying just this morning about how Republicans have not learned their lesson from 2008 when nominating Sarah Palin and thinking every woman would run to vote for her just because she is a woman?

Rubio may be a Latino …..but I see him as nothing but a male version of Sarah Palin….

Also – make no mistake – Rubio is kissing the Tea Party’s lily-white butts……all the way..

One last comment – while praising how he used studetn loans and his father got Medicare benefits to fight cancer and then had Medicare to lose his cancer battle with dignity and how his mother currently uses Medicare……then this guy goes on the attack and tries to say government is evil and bad?

In what alternative universe do these people live?

On one hand they praise the govenrment benefits they received – but yet it is evil for every American to get the same benefits.

Oh, wait a minute, Rubio is the poster boy for the Tea Party – and that is what they believe….isn’t it?

All for Me and none for Thee…..

      • The president talked about America, jobs, plans, ideas, Americans — he did a great job of being our leader and was inspiring. Rubio talked about himself and President Obama.

    • Like I said earlier – I did not get to hear President Obama’s speech.

As for Rubio talking about himself – he sure did praise all that government help he and his parents received -didn’t he?

But – then when I learn that Rubio voted against the Violence Against Women Act …….why would I listen to anything else this Rubio dude has to say from here on out?

I guess Republicans just don’t want to hold men accountable for when they rape and assault women – or is it just the Native Indian women being raped and assault on tribal lands that they don’t care about?

Or is it the fact that homosexuals are also helped by this Act?

I just don’t understand these Republican males. .And I really do not understand tehse women who support these Republican males.

  9. Folks – Republicans are in such a painted corner of their own doing….aren’t they?

    hehehehehhe…..
