  1. Share love every day!

It really does make the world go ’round.

    • That pretty much says it all.

I was reading on the digital version of the local rag about this very topic. One of the resident “mouths” alluded to the Separation of Church and State. Again, as always, these religious nutjobs seem to think that only works one way, with the belief that State can’t interfere with Church, but it’s sure okay by them when Church wants to run the State. I started to point that out, but decided it would be a waste of time. They only see and hear what they want to.

      Theocracy, here we come!

      • These morally superior religious church folks sure do not bent all out of shape when the government is giving them our tax dollars – that’s for sure.

Just sit down and figure up how much of our tax dollars are going to the Catholic Church through their numerous health care facilities.

That figure alone – should make you scratch your head as to why these folks picked the birth control issue to get their panties in such a bunch…

Bottom line – IMHO – it’s about the control of women. And that battle between the sexes has been going on for years.

I just heard a statistic – for the first time in decades – the number of singles in America is about half. In 1962 – singles made up 29%. In 2010 that figure was 48%.

And it’s not just the younger generation that is not married – this goes across the entire spectrum.

I wonder how many of those singles are Catholics or former Catholics?

Perhaps the Catholic Church should focus on their own flock before they start on everyone else?

Oh, but I forgot, the Catholic Church puts its seal of approval on Daddy annulling his long-time marriage to the kids’ mother just so he and his new trophy wife can be ‘good’ Catholics.

I wonder how many single ex-wives that church policy accounts for?

      • As Jon Stewart said so well: Rick Santorum believes that all Americans should be free to live by Christian law.

        http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/mon-february-13-2012/the-vagina-ideologues

      • Rick Santorum also has no qualms with pushing the ‘go to war with Iran’ button.

That fact alone should scare anyone with one working brain cell into NOT voting for this man.

  2. These morally superior church folk believe in medications – THEIR choice of medications.

You didn’t hear them say anything about banning erectile dysfunction meds – did you?

  3. I feel sorry for anyone experiencing a miscarriage (I’ve had one so I know firsthand) – BUT the God I worship gave me a working brain with which to make informed choices.

This attitude that ‘God will give us as many babies as He wants to give’ does bring into question one very big question I’ve had for many years.

If God is perfect and He gives babies as gifts to people who abuse them, neglect them, do not feed them, or even kill them – is that God’s mistake for giving that gift to those people?

Or is it something else going on – like Basic Science 101 – egg gets fertilized by sperm = baby…

    Seriously, folks, educate yourselves….

BTW – Michelle Duggar’s hair is the perfect picture of what I saw in my mandatory Courtship and Marriage college class. Now just imagine a big ‘pretty hairbow’ and you will see what I had to sit in the midst of for one full college term….

    Ughhhhh…..

    • P.S. – How many tax breaks did this family get throughout these 19 kids? No wonder they like these Conservative Republicans – Santorum wants to raise the child credit to $3,000 each. Wow – that’s alot of tax breaks for the choice they made.

Why should my tax dollars go to pay for people who choose to have 19 kids?

If these folks are not paying taxes – due to the generous tax breaks they get each time some kid is born – then that leaves a big gap in revenue – doesn’t it?

Who makes up for that………the rest of us, that’s who.

Conservatives preach about responsibility and pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps – but in reality, these folks go on t.v. and use all the tax breaks their CONS give them.

      • IIRC – those child tax credits are refundable – so even if there is no tax owed, the govenrment (taxpayers) cut these people a big fat check for the difference.

It used to be that way – I’ve not looked at the new tax forms yet.

  4. Wonder how long will it take before Gov Sammy has sold our prisons to the highest bidder – or maybe I should say – his favorite corporation/friend?

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/14/private-prisons-buying-state-prisons_n_1272143.html

    • There are already privately owned prisons in KS. I don’t know and can’t tell you which ones, but I know there are for-profit ones.

      • Thanks for the heads up. I’ll need to dig further into that issue. It might be fun to follow that money…..

      • indy, I’m not 100% about that, now that I think of it, but I’m 99.9% sure that some services in some prisons has been privatized. Let’s talk personal hygiene items (soap, shampoo, etc.) and probably others (paper, pens/pencils, etc.). Yeah, from what I’ve heard from someone who had a family member in jail/prison, prices on those items have skyrocketed since being taken over by for-profit places.

  5. Christianity–in the form of the Catholic Church–was founded by men. It was the tipping point in European religions. Pre-Christianity, women held a place equal to men, who were smart enough to know that, without women, there’s be no one. And without Catholicism, there’d be no Protestants.

    • I saw an article that made the made the argument one day that the Catholic Church places alot of emphasis on the Virgin Mary. But when one really looks into how this church treats women – the thing that is most prominent is that women birth the babies.

So – the only reason Catholics see the need for women is to simply birth those babies….nevermind the fact that those babies need food, housing, healthcare and alot of love once born.

The ONLY thing that is emphasized is the birthing of babies…..

You know – this makes sense when one also thinks that the main reason Catholic priests are celibate is because they did not want their men to be married – because, God forbid, any woman might have a legal right to the Church’s money or property.

But that does not mean these men are celibate – does it? There are many secrets within those Ivory Towers laden with Gold

      • I still remember that video clip of George Carlin when he said – Conservatives are Pro-life for the preborn. Once you’re born – you’re on your own UNTIL you reach the age of 18 yrs – THEN you become a soldier and you’re once again, important to these Conservative Pro-Lifers.

George Carlin said it much better than I just did – but you get the idea.

        And he was 100% correct

      • I can’t disagree with you on the property ownership thing for priests and how the Church has mega wealth, while the people live in poverty. And, yes, I think some of that poverty comes from continuing to have children they can’t afford, but still do because that’s what their church as told them to do.

      • My dear friend – a devout Catholic – has a sister who had 8 kids. This sister and brother-in-law have announced to everyone within earshot that they purposely had 8 kids so that each one of them could become nuns and priests.

I guess these kids don’t have a say in their future?

  6. Without Catholics and Protestants – Ireland would have been a much safer place to live…..huh?

  7. I saw this issue on the Huffingtonpost blog this morning – so I did some more research and found this article.

I had no idea this practice was going on – and up until 1995?

To each their own religion but what in the name of that is holy is religious about the Mormon church baptizing dead Jews without the Jew’s family requesting it?

Damn – religion is some screwed up shit….

    http://www.jewishjournal.com/religion/article/mormon_church_apologizes_for_proxy_baptism_of_wiesenthals_parents_20120214/

    • I think fnord posted this a few weeks ago – about the Mormon’s White Horse Prophecy pertaining to Mitt Romney becoming president.

Like I said above – to each their own religion – but if any of this Mormonism is coming into our presidency – then it is a BFD..

I say the same thing about any Christianism, Judaism, Buddhism, Muslism or any other religioinism – there is a good reason the Founding Fathers wanted separation of church and state.

    • indy, I found out about this mormon practice years ago when I was doing family research. This was all before the www craze. My great Uncle taught Genealogy in Albuquerque and had been doing our family genealogy for years. A part of the branch had married into the mormon church and the grUncle discover they had baptized the non-mormon inlaws into the church after they had died. I was told they were rolling in their graves over it. The grUncle also said not to trust ANY of the info the mormon church had for family information. The whole goal of the mormons was not to have true and accurate information but to have ALL of their family written into “the book”. If they are not in “the book” they will not get into heaven. Members were submitting information that they had created just to get names added. I have found a lot of erroneuos information in their files, and they will not change it.

      • So the whole intention of this practice of baptizing dead people (even against their families’ wishes) is because of some logic that if you are not in ‘the book’ then you don’t go to Heaven?

I just wonder – where have all these holocaust victims been ‘hanging out’ until they were lucky enough to have been chosen to be included in ‘the book’?

        That was sarcasm – BTW.

Seroiusly, what I find so offensives is that these Mormons seem to have no trouble trampling over other peoples’ beliefs just so that their book is full?

What really bothers me is when I read on another blog that Mitt Romney – himself – has participated in some of those baptism ceremonies.

Just what this country does not need – another preacher man in the White House.

  8. When it comes to religion – John Lennon had the right idea –

Imagine a world without religion – it is easy if you try….

  9. Maybe these Christian Conservative Republicans should brush up on their Bible Story of David and Goliath?

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/13/barack-obama-reelection-campaign_n_1274112.html

  10. I heard the Teapublicans referred to as The Christian Nationalist Party and thought it fit well!

I had to quit using GOP since there is absolutely nothing grand left in the Republican Party, but I can sure see me using this accurate description! It perfectly describes the theocracy they support!

  11. No matter what name they are called ….their message is the same one that has been used for centuries – hate, fear, war mongering and which class will be our slaves?

  12. Listen. Twenty years ago. Today. Eerily similar.

    • Today’s republicans are equally inept as H.W. Bush was in this debate. They really don’t understand! In the twenty years that have passed they’ve doubled down on protecting the interests of the most wealthy while ignoring the needs of everyone else!

    • The Bushes grew up wealthy, including H.W.. Clinton’s childhood was what was considered lower middle to middle class. People who have always been surrounded by wealth don’t know what it’s like to worry if you’ll keep your house, be able to pay your bills, or have the money to feed your family. At least those in the middle class are familiar with those things, if not all the time, at least once or twice.

Bringing up the I-never-had-cancer meme was thoughtless. There’s no comparison. Leave it to someone who’s never experienced either of those things to use them as an example.

      • IIRC – Bill Clinton’s mother was divorced when he was young and she worked as a nurse?

Kinda like Barack Obama and his childhood with his mother. And while we’re talking about cancer – Barack knows what that is like to watch his mother deal with cancer and not being able to pay the damn bills.

I think that is one thing anybody in today’s wealthy Grand Old Party does not know the first thing about – how hard life COULD be if they had not chosen the ‘right’ parents.

      • Yes, Clinton’s mother was a nurse. They weren’t dirt poor, but she was a single, working mother. I don’t recall him saying that they had any really bad times, but he was aware that she worked to take care of them. She remarried later, and things got better for them, but I don’t think they were ever truly wealthy.

I have his autobiography and never did finish reading it. It’s huge! LOL But it was interesting, at least as far as I got.

  13. President Obama asks the question, “How Does the Payroll Tax Cut Help Your Family?”

Hundreds of you took to Twitter today after President Obama asked folks to remind Congress what an extra $40 a paycheck means for you and your family. With the payroll tax cut set to expire at the end of the month, Congress needs to understand that this money makes a big difference.

    http://www.barackobama.com/news/entry/how-does-the-payroll-tax-cut-help-your-family

  14. The Bush tax cuts are up for extension later this year. I wonder how these Republicans are going to keep their promise of all tax cuts have to be paid for ?

Especially if these Republicans lose the White House and the House in the 2012 election?

It’s going to be interesting folks – buy more stock in popcorn farms…. LOL
