Hi signifyin’ monkey, and thanks for your input.

I don’t want to know the person who might argue that George Bush was actually the best person for POTUS.

It’s going to be interesting when white men are the minority they’ve never been in the past. I’m thinking some won’t handle it well. Shoot, some won’t even acknowledge it!

OK so the dialectic that’s missing if affirmative action creates a space where less qualified blacks and hispanics are hired — it stands to reason that without affirmative action Whites had the luxury of being hired over more qualified blacks and hispanics. It’s only logical. Then let us not forget– please and you can check the statistics–Affirmative Action has benefited white women more than any other group. What keeps coming up here is the erasure of reality of slavery and its aftermath which includes Jim Crow. Simultaneously, I can’t believe that white people are naturally intellectually superior. Racism is real–institutional racism is real. Let’s look at our last president, George Bush. Are we actually saying that he was the ‘best’ person for the office of President of the United States? That is where the argument falls apart when we look at the reality of white supremacy in America.

Get used to it white guys. Whites are on track to becoming a minority and that minority number isnt going to stabalize or go up. Give it a hundred years from now and id be amazed if whites made up even 15% of the nations total population. Same with Europe, heavy immigration to there from Arab nations. there on track to being minorities aswell. Get used to it fellas !!

The problem with seeing this as atonement for guilt. It should be a matter of what is right instead of guilt.
If as a matter of guilt there comes a point where the feeling of guilt is felt atoned is reached and the effort stops. where it being a feeling of what is right it will continue.

“Those who rant about affirmative action refuse to recognize the long history that made it necessary“.

We can not forget the long history that made it necessary but neither can we make that history go away by substituting one race for another. The goal of affirmative action was to bring equality not one-up man-ship. It was not to make a minority a handicap who only achieve success by use of a give-me.

bearmancartoon pointed out a couple of problems that have arise. One being:
“The premise behind Affirmative Action was to tell corporations that they needed an Affirmative plan to both attract and promote qualified minority & female candidates. What some companies did was simply create quotas and unfortunately that is the stigma around AA that is carried today“.

If the company fails to find a qualified minority, rather then to continue searching they hire a unqualified minority for no other reason then their skin color. What that means is that the qualified minority loses out as the opening is filled. They hard work and effort is trumped by not only the lesser qualified but the racism that brought about the quota.

“The real shame is when qualified minorities and women that do get hired/promoted in middle/upper management jobs are perceived as AA hires versus people looking at their qualifications“.

Judge Sotomayer did not get to be the outstanding appointee by give me’s she got an opportunity and worked her butt off and show that she is qualified.

My friend at Wal-Mart was hired not because he had a good work record but because of the color of his skin. He was kept on even though he was a lousy worker because of the color of his skin and expected to do no better because of the color of his skin.
That is racism for a quota, it did a disservice to him and those who he worked with.
He was capable of doing better and when I finally confronted him about it he did.
It amazed the management when he became a worthwhile employee because of the color of his skin they did not think he could do better. They only saw a Black man which was all he was worth to them. I saw the person and did not grade him by the color of his skin.
LOL I miss Fred… He moved on and got a better job after he had established his worth for a better job. On his own worth and not on the color of his skin.

I would venture to go even further and say that white men had it easy because they had their wives AND their slaves to tend to those menial tasks like every day living.

It always amazed me to think that Southern whites were so against blacks but yet these white men and women would let the black woman slave be nannies to their children.

Somehow, that just does not make any sense to me.
